We have an exciting opportunity for a full time, Band 2 Domestic who can join our team at Whittington Health NHS Trust hospital, Magdala Ave, London, N19 5NF.

Whittington Health provides hospital and community care services to 500,000 people living in Haringey and Islington.

The organisation has a highly regarded educational role, that teaches undergraduate medical students (as part of UCL Medical School) and nurses and therapists throughout the year, alongside providing a range of educational packages for postgraduate doctors and other healthcare professionals.


Job Summary
This position forms a part of the Cleaning Service's team.

The key purpose of the role is to undertake cleaning duties and assist with all aspects of the cleaning service under the direction and supervision of the Team Leader and Domestic and Portering Services Manager.


The role of a Cleaner is to contribute to the efficient and effective cleaning service delivered within facilities directorate by ensuring that duties prescribed for the position are completed to an acceptable standard as detailed within cleaning schedules and methodologies.


Requirements:


  • Basic standard of literacy to read instructions or reference material
  • Ability to understand instructions and/or follow task lists
  • Basic awareness of Health and Safety in the workplace
  • Able to undertake a range of manual and routine tasks
  • Selfmotivated and able to use own initiative
  • Ability to integrate into a team environment
  • A good level of English literacy skills written and spoken
  • A good level of physical capability to carry out the more physical duties in the role

Responsibilities

  • Undertaking cleaning duties in accordance with the Whittington health and facilities cleaning standards; cleaning task descriptions and cleaning schedules.
  • Maintaining and using adequate supplies of the correct cleaning materials and consumables for cleaning duties to be carried out.
  • To carry out other duties which may reasonably be required by the Team Leaders and Domestic Service Manager.
  • Undertaking daily, weekly; monthly and annual cleaning routines to ensure all areas of responsibility are maintained to high standard.
  • Providing a highquality standard of hygiene throughout the area of responsibility to reduce infection related risks to patients and visitors.
  • To work to agreed planned duty timetable relevant to the ward / department so as to maintain the cleanliness and hygiene levels of floors, kitchens, toilets, bathrooms, showers, basins, taps, all surfaces, internal glass, telephones, lamps, bins, furniture, fixtures and fittings to the standard laid out in the Housekeeping operational procedures.
  • To provide a hot and cold food and beverage service to patients.
  • To assist ward staff in the patient meal service, to maintain the cleanliness of food service equipment, patients' trays, plates and cutlery.
  • Responsible for managing own work on a daily basis, reporting to the ward / department manager for work priorities and the team leader for support and guidance as and when required.
  • To work as part of a team in the delivery of the service, ensuring all materials and equipment are used in a costeffective manner.
  • To follow local procedures, ensuring that the correct cleaning materials, equipment, and chemicals are used. To adhere to cleaning schedules and service hygiene controls and comply with Health and Safety and COSHH (control of substances hazardous to health) regulations.
  • To report maintenance defects within the ward / department to the facilities helpdesk.
  • To maintain an overall awareness of the ward / department including health and safety, food safety and aspects within security and fire procedures.
  • To undertake any training programmes as required within the role
  • The post holder will be expected to work in other areas of the service for familiarisation purposes in order to provide cover for other frontline facilities staff within the department.
  • Responsible for complying with all local policies and procedures.
  • To undertake any extra duties as directed by the Facilities Team Leader and / or Domestic and Portering Services Manager and / or the Assistant Director of Facilities
  • Hotel Services and in agreement with the post holder.
