We have an exciting opportunity for a new role within cancer services, for an oral SACT co-ordinator to support delivery of the oral SACT pathway for patients receiving treatment at Great Western Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.

This post holder will be a point of contact with patients, coordinating administrative processes in order to provide a smooth and efficient service to cancer patients so they can receive quality treatment.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated individual to work within the team.


The post holder will support the clinical team, the Cancer Pharmacy Team and the outsourced Pharmacy provider in ensuring prescriptions are approved, validated, and dispensed in a timely manner.

This post holder will schedule oral SACT treatments in conjunction with the existing SACT scheduling team. They will be responsible for ensuring treatments are booked in accordance with the correct treatment schedules.


The cancer services at GWH are provided by a multidisciplinary team with the focus on providing patient-centered, specialist services to our day therapy unit, in-patient haematology unit, outpatient cancer clinic.

Main responsibilities


The post holder is responsible for planning and organising the oral SACT schedule alongside the scheduling team, ensuring that patients receive their oral SACT at the appropriate time and place, and if necessary, refer them to the clinical team.

Scheduling oral SACT treatments through the electronic chemotherapy booking system (ARIA), which links prescriptions to scheduled appointments.


Co-ordinate patient treatment appointments, re-scheduling cancellations and delays within a specific timeframe according to clinical requests and National Cancer Treatment Targets.


The post holder will be expected to be a 'Super User' across all the relevant administrative elements and electronic systems.


Considering a wide range of influencing factors, including pharmacy turnaround times, accessibility of blood results, and clinical urgency to plan patient treatment efficiently.


Monitoring SACT prescribing with pharmacy to ensure that all medicines are prescribed in accordance with hospital policy and contacting individual clinicians if any prescriptions are not filled.


Serve as a point of contact between the patients, the clinical team, the outsourced Pharmacy provider, and the administration team.
