McLaren Advanced Projects


McLaren Advanced Projects (MAP) is a multidisciplinary engineering unit that works on many of the most ambitious technical challenges at McLaren Racing.

The newly created function is designed to innovate and unlock performance across various racing series operating worldwide.

But racing is just the start.

McLaren Advanced Projects also collaborates with McLaren Automotive on hypercars and supercars and undertakes projects on a wide range of scientific and engineering projects for our partners.


Within McLaren Advanced Projects, we assemble integrated teams to work across the full development process from concept to release, drawing on 60 years of continuous development in F1 and beyond.

Team members bring a wide range of skills to bear on our projects, from aerodynamics and computational fluid dynamics to lightweight structures and composites, data science and advanced simulations.


Introduction to the Role
The Engineering Project Coordinator role sits within the newly formed McLaren Advanced Projects (MAP) division within McLaren Racing. MAP provides engineering services to all internal motorsport programmes as well as McLaren Automotive and external partners.

These services cover a wide spectrum from direct contribution of team members to existing work packages, all the way to full ownership of delivering entire engineering projects and programmes.


The team are looking for an individual with an engineering degree background interested in pursuing a career in project management for complex engineering programmes in the motorsport industry and beyond.

As part of this development journey, the Engineering Project Coordinator shall report to the Engineering Project Manager and support the MAP team with the delivery of the various internal and external technical workstreams.

This role is fully embedded in the engineering project team from inception to completion.

It will require building strong relationships and working closely with the project teams, clients, and other key stakeholders to ensure successful programme delivery.

In-depth technical understanding is also essential to be able to capture requirements, define scope and timeline as well as identify risks.

This role is primarily based at the MTC, but travel may be required from time to time.


Accountabilities and Responsibilities

  • Support the project management department with the daytoday planning and coordination of the Advanced Projects division.
  • Prepare, update and maintain departmental and project management documents for the required MAP engineering work streams. This could include detailed project plans, project status updates, budgets and risk registers.
  • Chase stakeholders, suppliers and project owners for updates on progress, adherence to milestones, communicating of any risks or roadblocks to the project team.
  • Organise internal and external meetings, take and distribute meeting minutes and chase for action updates as required.
  • Prepare quotations and scope of supply documents for external engineering projects.
  • Attend and chair when required various engineering meetings to obtain genuine status of progress for all critical workstreams, update documentation accordingly and escalate identified risks.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate and up to date programme status slides for regular update meetings with the project team and stakeholders.
  • Take ownership for some aspects of major and minor engineering projects as required.
  • If necessary, support with onboarding activities for MAP new starters
  • Travel to visit external clients for meetings and to monitor project progress when required.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in an engineering discipline essential
  • Awareness of project management principles
  • Good organisational skills, can identify the critical path and prioritise accordingly
  • Can produce highquality, professional documents with good attention to detail
  • Can recognise risks and escalate appropriately
  • Able to chase, update and manage the output of various stakeholders thoroughly and in a professional manner
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal with both internal and external teams
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office products
