*Brand New Children's Home* - Residential Childcare Worker


LOCATION:

Curdworth


RATE OF PAY:

From £11.75 per hour


Full-time Residential Childcare Workers are expected to work within a shift pattern, that covers the home 24/7. The home will endeavour to be flexible where possible

WHAT THIS JOB ENTAILS:


  • Establishing meaningful relationships and providing practical/emotional support to the children/young people living with us. Contribute towards the provision of a secure, stable and supportive environment that enables our residents to build the life-skills and resilience needed to make the transition from living in care to living independently.
  • To maintain a high quality of care and support which meets the physical, emotional, intellectual, social and cultural needs of children and young people within our care. Working from the guidelines from the 1989 Children's Act, National Minimum Standards, Every Child Matters and any other relevant legislation.
  • To support the children/young people with their daily routines and care needs in line with their assigned care plan. Act as a good role model for the children and young people in the Home, offering good advice, guidance and assistance when needed.
  • To support children and young people to make their own choices and decisions, ensuring that their needs and wishes are fully considered in decisions relating to them.
  • To enable children/young people to develop their social skills, and to access educational and leisure activities and promote their participation in these.
  • To ensure the protection of the children and young people from significant harm, by, observing changes in children's behaviour or appearance and complying fully with the Home's Safeguarding & Child Protection policy.
  • You will be responsible for key working named children, writing reports, maintaining up to date daily records and attending meetings with external professionals and other duties allocated to you.
  • Attending to practical matters in relation to childcare (cooking, cleaning, general maintenance around the home etc)
  • Providing advice, assistance, and support on a 1:1 basis to enable young people to address past and present difficulties
  • Providing emotional support at times of difficulty or stress
  • Helping young people gain self-control by challenging unacceptable behaviour and rewarding acceptable, pro-social conduct.
  • Being knowledgeable of and following relevant policies and procedures to ensure the smooth running of the Home.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:


  • 40 hour per week contract
  • Flexibility to work a shift pattern that covers the home 24/
  • Able to complete sleepin's
  • Willingness to study and complete further training as identified by the manager.
  • A full, enhanced DBS check

EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS:


DESIRABLE:


  • QCF Level 3 Diploma in Children and Young People
  • Experience working in a residential setting with children and young people
  • Working knowledge of residential childcare practice
  • Strong knowledge of safeguarding & child protection practice
  • Strong knowledge around Ofsted regulations, and Children's Act
