Southend University Hospital are recruiting to a 2 year fixed term contract Foundation Year 2 Level in Acute Medicine.


Although this post is not recognised for training, we offer support in developing a Learning Portfolio and regular educational appraisal with a Consultant Educator.


Our Acute Medicine team provide an integral role in the management of medical referrals from both the Emergency Department and direct from Primary Care.

The Acute Medical Service comprises of an Acute Medical Unit with 24 assessment beds, Ambulatory Emergency Care Unit for assessment, diagnosis and treatment without overnight admission for ambulatory patients and a Short Stay Unit.


You will receive, in addition to your base salary a supplement at a rate of 50% (1A) of your base salary for a full shift duty rota including late, nights and weekend working.


The Job Role:


  • Liaise between nurses, other junior doctors, patients, relatives and senior medical staff
  • Attend to the day to day management of day case and inpatients
  • Attend and participate in ward rounds
  • Attend general and specialist outpatient, diagnostic and preassessment clinics
  • Teach medical students as directed
  • Supervise, monitor and assist the junior colleagues.
  • Take part in rostered emergency work
  • To keep upto date with all administrative duties including letters, results and discharge summaries as required
  • Maintain continued professional development
  • Undertake and assist in audit projects
  • Attend weekly educational and multidisciplinary sessions

The applicant must have achieved a primary medical qualification recognised by the General Medical Council (GMC).

The applicant has attained additional relevant qualifications e.g. ALS, ALERT.
