Deputy Chief Executive Officer


You will work with the CEO and Board of Trustees to deliver business strategy and ensure the ongoing sustainability, growth and success of AUKWC.

This new role is accountable for Operational delivery of all aspects of the business, through project, data and compliance leads.

You will be a natural leader and champion the organisational ethos.


As the most senior Executive you will be deputising for the CEO, this exciting position is central to developing and driving forward operational excellence and optimising frontline service delivery.


  • You will use exceptional communication skills to develop longlasting relationships with third sector and other organisations to identify new opportunities and develop partnerships. You will be responsible for a consistent brand message across the business.
  • You will be able to demonstrate the ability to make highquality decisions and implement service improvements.
  • You will be experienced in motivating your team to achieve, displaying high levels of emotional intelligence and remaining calm and resilient under pressure.
  • You will be passionate about West Cumbria and always striving to improve the lives of its older population.

Scope of the Role
The Deputy CEO will have the responsibility to deputise for the CEO. Develop and drive forward operational excellence, to include bringing together the management of the core operations to

  • Deliver frontline services.
  • Identify future customers and unrestricted income streams.
  • Identify and implement service improvement.
  • Identify and implement learning improvement.
  • Ensure consistent brand message across the business.


The Deputy CEO will also be responsible for developing long-lasting relationships with third sector and other organisations to identify new opportunities and develop partnerships.


Working with
The CEO to
- develop new, productive corporate relationships.
- contribute to the development of the charity's wider funding function.
- to develop strategic and operational objectives which are deeply rooted to our community and underpinned by our ethos.
- to develop a strategy to support growth in income from Trusts, tenders, grants and legacies.

The Data and Compliance Manager to
- provide advice and support to deliver the charity's strategic and operational objectives.
- to monitor compliance and delivery.

Project and Service staff to
- monitor, review and develop best working practices.

Internal and External Stakeholders to
- promote and enhance relationships to ensure effective outcomes for AUKWC.


Main duties and responsibilities

  • Deputise for the CEO as required, both internally and externally
  • Work as an integral member of the Executive Team, providing advice, support and leadership to deliver the Charity's strategic and operational objectives.
  • Ensure high quality and cost-effective delivery of the Charity's strategic and operational objectives.
  • Ensure operational risks and opportunities are represented at Board level and outcomes communicated effectively to operational teams.
  • Contribute to the strategic direction of the Charity, ensuring the future direction of the Charity continues to make a difference to the older population of West Cumbria.
  • Promote service improvement culture in front line and support services.
  • Promote a culture of personnel learning and development at all levels.
  • Be proactive in keeping up to date with ideas and best practice from across the sector, including through networks with other charities.
  • Working with Line Managers to ensure contractual obligations and targets are met and tracking and reporting progress, in accordance with organisational policies and procedures.
  • Working with colleagues to identify potential new opportunities, fundraising activities and assisting in the preparation of business cases for investment.
