  • Meet the teamThe team work closely with our other business operations teams to provide a first class service. They are responsible for the sound financial operational management of the group and have responsibilities for the safe-keeping and operating of our clients' funds held on account, credit control, and accounts payable. The team also provide bespoke finance business partnering support to all other areas of the business.
  • The opportunityThe role of Head of Finance Operations works closely with the Finance Director overseeing all internal and external financial transactional processes. This role provides leadership to the managers of the Finance Operations Teams across the Legal Cashiering, Accounts Payable and Credit Control functions. The Finance Operations Team includes a team of around 45 people operating mainly from our Birmingham and Eastbourne hubs as well as across our regional Ampa hubs.


The role interacts closely with the Finance leadership team and across the wider firm in particular with the Group's Commercial Managers, Business Unit leads, C-Suite, Business Operations and other teams within the Finance Function.


Key Accountabilities

  • Provide effective leadership and line management of the Ampa Group Finance Operations Teams ensuring the highest levels of customer service whilst mitigating operational risks
  • Manage and support the teams within Financial Operations, ensuring that they are coached, trained and appropriately resourced to fulfil their responsibilities.
  • Work collaboratively across the business to drive business process improvement and achieve best practice service
  • Interrogate and improve processes in order that they are designed and performed as efficiently as possible and deliver robust financial control
  • Review processes and educate stakeholders to ensure the Group is acting within the Solicitors Accounts Rules in the way it deals with financial transactions to achieve unqualified SRA audits
  • Ensure processes allow for the best possible client experience in terms of their financial interactions with the Group
  • Responsible for the control and reporting of all activities relating to the operational finance team including audit and control reporting, driving KPI's and continually improving processes to drive excellence in the area
  • Leading any projects relating to finance systems / process implementation
  • Develop and maintain appropriate controls and governance within operational finance to manage and mitigate risks to maintain the integrity of the financial transactions

Skills and Experience

  • People and Process management and demonstrable change management experience in a similar role
  • Strong financial operations background with understanding of how the finance operations functions interact with the rest of the finance function and the wider business
  • Previous demonstrable experience of improving and implementing financial systems and processes
  • Previous experience of developing teams in a fastgrowing business
  • Practical and theoretical knowledge of the Solicitors Accounts Rules would be advantageous but not essential
  • Whilst Legal sector experience would be advantageous, applicants from non
- legal backgrounds are welcomed
