The starting salary for this role is £53,918 - £60,864 per annum, working 36 hours per week.
Surrey County Council is seeking to appoint a dynamic and innovative Senior Public Health Lead, with strong leadership and technical skills and a real commitment to improving population health, protecting health and reducing health inequalities.
We are seeking to expand our Health Protection team to ensure we can continue to protect the health of the population in the light of learning from the COVID pandemic and at a time when the establishment of the new integrated care systems, UK Health SecurityAgency (UKHSA) and Office for Health Improvement and Disparities (OHID) bring opportunities to work together in new ways.

About the role
The role will support the Consultant in Public Health and Health Protection Team Manager to deliver a number of strategic, reactive, campaign and project responsibilities as part of the local authority's health protection, health improvement and health inequalitiesduties and programmes.
- Communicable diseases advice and assurance, working with UKHSA, with local commissioners and providers of health and care, and with communities on diseases that are prevalent in our local population, such as TB
- Environmental hazards
- Public health input to emergency planning including outbreak/pandemic planning and extremes of weather
- Assurance and promotion of the cancer and noncancer population screening and immunisation programmes
- Leadership around the wider determinants of health such as healthy planned environments, sustainability and air quality
The role will also work within the team to support the Director of Public Health and Consultant in Public Health who lead the Surrey Health Protection Board, working in partnership with other local organisations.
About you
You will be a champion for health protection and prevention and have a strong focus on health inequalities, all of which arelead areas for the Public Health Team.
You will work closely with our health improvement, health insight and intelligence, andhealthcare public health teams on areas of joint interest.
In this role, you will manage one or more public health leads and may hold a budget.- That you can bring to the role energy, drive, and innovation in order to make a difference and improve outcomes for people in Surrey
- Possession of technical skills in health protection, public health, or an allied profession
- Skill at managing relationships and negotiating across a wide range of organisations
- An appreciation of the challenges faced by local authorities and the NHS
- The ability to be both flexible and adaptable to the changing needs of the Public Health function
- The ability to work in an agile manner using digital solutions
