The forestry sector is set to double in size over the next ten years as we respond to the Climate Crisis and create a more sustainable future for our country.
To meet this challenge, this new role has been created to create extra capacity within our Learning and Outreach team.
The Forestry Careers Advisor will be co-ordinating our Careers Roadshows as well as supporting the trainees on our flagship Forestry Roots programme.
Location
The Royal Forestry Society, The Hay Barns, Home Farm Drive, Upton Estate, Banbury, OX15 6HU.
Salary
Part-time, 21 hours (3 days) a week; £15,000 (equivalent to £25,000 FTE)

About the RFS
Responsibilities and Duties
As our RFS Forestry Careers Advisor, you will be responsible for encouraging and supporting people taking their first steps in their careers.
Core activities, are described below:
- Mentoring our Forestry Roots trainees through their 12 month placements. Providing them with support, encouragement and a safe space to talk.
- Organise and staff the RFS Careers Roadshow at up to 6 events each year, introducing year olds to forestry and arboriculture careers.
- Get to know the work of the RFS and the breadth of our Society so that you can connect people with opportunities.
- Be a 'first point of contact' for people considering a future in our sector, answering queries and solving problems.
- Maintain the Careers and Jobs pages of our website.
- Administer the payment of grants and collect evidence and feedback from grant recipients to support production of appropriate and transparent project communications and reports to funders

Essential characteristics

- You must be personable, positive, and capable of developing good professional relationships with employers, education institutions and young people.
- A solutionsfocused approach and excellent problemsolving skills.
Essential Skills
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Good numeracy skills
- A full UK driving licence and the confidence to drive to any location in England and Wales.
Desirable
- A real passion for trees and woodland management.
- Good literacy skills and the confidence to write reports on project progress.
- Experience of leading coaching or mentoring in the workplace.
- Experience of managing or creating website content.
