Preparatory School Learning Support Assistant

Part-time, term-time only, commencing September 2023


Solihull School is looking to appoint a Teaching Assistant qualified to L2 or above, to provide 1-1 learning support with a focus on SEND.


The role is offered for 17.5 hours per week (mornings) fixed-term for one academic year, with a possible review September 2024.


The successful applicant will be able to demonstrate they can support development and progress using a wide range of strategies to enable the pupil in achieving their goals.

They will work closely with the Form Tutor and have knowledge of the National Curriculum and recent developments.

Solihull School is centrally located in Solihull with convenient access to the M42.

Prep School Learning Support Assistant**
Responsible to: Deputy Head (Academic)


Supported by:
The Form Tutor & the Learning and Curriculum Support Team


Primary Responsibility:

To provide 1-1 learning support for a pupil with SEND and assist the Form Tutor and other Prep School colleagues with their responsibility for the pupil's development and progress.


Hours: 17.5 hours per week, mornings only (details to be discussed). Term time only


Specific Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Establish and develop a constructive relationship with the pupil and interact with them according to their individual needs.
  • Demonstrate a calm, encouraging and optimistic approach towards working 11 with the specific pupil and their teachers, using a wide range of strategies to support the pupil to achieve their learning goals.
  • Aid access to the full range of learning experiences through modified materials, as required
  • Assist with the development and implementation of the child's Pupil Profile in conjunction with the L&CS team and Form Tutor
  • Assist with the planning, production and implementation of structured and agreed learning resources and activities, monitoring the pupil's responses to learning activities, adjusting activities according to those pupil's responses and accurately recording achievement/progress as directed.
  • Support the pupil in developing their social and emotional skills, overall wellbeing and personal development.
  • Set challenging and realistic expectations, promoting selfesteem and independence.
  • Promote the inclusion and acceptance of the pupil amongst their peers and colleagues.
  • Encourage the pupil to interact with others and engage in activities led by the teacher.
  • Support the use of ICT in learning activities and develop the pupil's competence and independence in its use.
  • Liaise with and provide detailed and regular, informal and formal feedback to teachers on the pupil's achievement and progress.
  • Provide feedback to the pupil in relation to progress and achievement under guidance of teachers.
  • Attend and participate in relevant meetings and reviews pertaining to the pupil's learning and wellbeing.
  • Establish constructive relationships with parents/carers.
  • Participate in specific training and other learning activities as, and when, required for this role.
  • Support the pupil in successfully navigating everyday school life, e.g. lesson transitions, beginning and end of day school routines
  • Support schoolbased recommendations as advised by external specialists, as appropriate
  • Use effective behaviour management strategies consistently in line with the school's policy and procedures
  • Communicate effectively with other staff members and pupils, and with parents and carers under the direction of the Form Tutor
  • Take opportunities to build the appropriate skills, qualifications, and/or experience needed for the role, with support from the school;

General
