Description

Our client is recognised as an international market leader in the design and manufacture of hydraulic valves and electronic control systems.

The business serves a worldwide market through its sister companies and distribution network with products spanningboth industrial and mobile equipment.

Due to continued growth, the business is now looking to recruit a
Design Engineer, reporting directly to the Design Manager.

This role will contribute to the efficiency and profitability of the business by providing an effective design service for the company's product range in accordance with customer requirementsand company standards.


Main Responsibilities:


  • For each sales enquiry, generate a project enquiry form, and project number and identify the details of the project, allocating drawing numbers and stock numbers as required.
  • Prepare design concepts and engineering drawings for hydraulic manifold systems.
  • Place enquiries with suppliers for quotation against the production drawings and follow up as appropriate.
  • Source new suppliers as necessary and arrange to visit if necessary.
  • Prepare drawings for peripheral component parts and assemblies.
  • Prepare costing spreadsheets and complete a costing template with the relevant information from suppliers.
  • Control the issue of drawings and revisions of drawings and save them onto the company intranet.
  • Meet with supplier's representatives to discuss their products and services and identify whether the business can use them.
  • Once a customer order is confirmed, convert the project drawings to production issues and check for accuracy prior to sending out to subcontractors for final manufacture.
  • Prepare any engineering drawing change paperwork required.
  • Progress purchase orders with suppliers.
  • Assist in the inspection of goods received in conjunction with the production staff, when requested.
  • Draft hydraulic test procedures for production, in conjunction with the Design Manager.
  • Respond to telephone enquiries from customers and suppliers.

Key Skills & Experience Required:


  • Proficient in CAD design using SolidWorks or similar CAD system.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Good communication and team player
  • Effective interpretation of instructions
  • Conscientious, methodical, organised and tidy
  • Flexible and capable of managing changing priorities and tasks
  • Able to use initiative
  • Must have a minimum NVQ or similar qualification in a relevant field.
  • HNC or equivalent in Engineering is desirable but not essential.

Additional Information:


  • This is a fulltime permanent role working Monday to Thursday 8.30 am 5 pm and Friday 8.30 am 4 pm. Though earlier start and finish times can be discussed.
  • 31 days holiday including Bank Holidays.
  • Private medical cover after the probationary period.
