The post holder will be responsible for the delivery of a robust integrated governance framework that drives improvements in quality, safety, and effectiveness across the hospice.


The post holder will be responsible for:

  • The delivery of mechanisms that demonstrate patient safety and quality.
  • To embed a robust Quality Improvement framework and lead on quality improvement initiatives and plans for Havens Hospices
  • To implement KPIs that provide assurance to Trustees that the organisation is compliant monitor compliance with statutory regulations and national benchmarks, monitors progress against business plans, and provides insight into its effective operation
  • To implement and monitor a quality assurance framework and identify outcome measures
  • To report against quality indicators and prepare presentations and an annual quality account
  • To take the lead in embedding the new PSIF (Patient Safety incident framework)
  • To continually explore ways that Havens Hospices can measure the patient and families experience
To always act in a manner congruent and exemplary to the behavioural competencies of Havens Hospices

  • To ensure compliance with legislative framework and standards as defined in the Health and Social Care and monitored by the Care Quality Commission
  • To lead the internal audits against the Care Quality Commissions Key Lines of Enquiry to monitor the organisations compliance and inspection preparedness.
  • To be responsible for assuring and demonstrating that clinical services are safe, effective, responsive caring and wellled
  • To be accountable for the development and delivery of a robust clinical audit programme to benchmark against quality indicators, undertaking audits as required and maintaining accurate data collection and reporting.
  • Responsible for the collation of benchmarking data and monitoring of the organisations key performance indicators (KPI) making recommendations on service improvements or changes to practice as indicated by the data.
  • To take a lead role in collating and managing data and information, including patient and service user feedback
  • To write and report the Hospice annual quality account or similar assurance to the Board of Trustees
  • To ensure robust systems of governance and data collection and in place and operate effectively to provide evidencebased data and performance compliance against quality indicators
  • To chair the Clinical Quality Group

To oversee and review trends and benchmarks in line with audit outcomes, risk assessments, user feedback and adverse incidents

  • To ensure the organisation complies with action against patient safety alerts and actions are clearly reportable
  • To be responsible for logging, distributing, and monitoring action against medical device alerts, Health and safety and hazard warnings
  • To define and draw up a quality improvement plan each year and monitor its implementation and outcomes
  • To monitor and report the outcomes from feedback, complaints, compliments, and incidents, internally and externally when required
  • To function as a role model to all staff and colleagues in all areas of the organisation, upholding Havens values always
  • To exercise linemanagement responsibilities for designated staff and support other staff with the delegation of linemanagement responsibilities
  • To work in collaboration with the Director of Clinical Services and leadership team in monitoring and evaluating outcomes of quality standards within Havens Hospices, including patient safety, quality of care, harm free care and therapeutic outcomes.
  • To work in collaboration with the People Development Team in identifying and meeting the training and development needs of staff and keeping up to date with current practice and trends in paediatric palliative care
