Queen's College, London is an independent day school for girls situated in Harley Street.

The College has a unique place in the history of girls' education as the first institution to provide a formal academic education for young women.

It was founded on its present site in 1848 by Professor FD Maurice, the Christian socialist thinker and reformer.

Today Queen's occupies four 18th century listed town houses, which have been imaginatively adapted to provide excellent modern facilities, including a gym and a theatre.

Girls enter the College in Year 7 following assessment in English and Mathematics. Entry is over-subscribed and academic standards are high.

All pupils take a minimum of nine GCSEs and three A-levels, and proceed to competitive university courses, with a handful each year going to art or music colleges.

In 2002 the governing council set up a Preparatory School for girls aged 4 to 11 in nearby Portland Place.

The most recent ISI inspection of the College and Preparatory School took place in March 2013, and resulted in the award of the grade 'Excellent' for all six of the educational areas inspected.

Queen's College aims to provide a broadly based and rigorous education, combining academic strength with an emphasis on the creative arts.

There is a very full extra-curricular programme and Queen's girls are encouraged to develop a warm and confident approach to those around them.
