Role Profile

The role of the Laser Machinist will be responsible for the Laser production requirements producing conforming products to customer requirements.

The Laser Machinist will also assume responsibility for maintaining the machine undertaking operator checks as required.

Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities

Promote a positive, participative, and proactive safety culture throughout the laser cell / area that focus on the safety of people / components
Follow all relevant Safe Systems of Work and report EHS concerns
Set up the laser machine as required to produce high quality components
Ensure the quality of the cut meets the required specifications and tolerances
Perform Laser operations using the different laser machines
Develop tooling solutions and fixturing as needed
Provide methods and technical support to other members of the team wherever necessary
Ensure that full documentation is kept up to date detailing the path, featuring, and tooling information where required
Contribute new ideas and positive support to the current processes by improving productivity
Assist in solving manufacturing and quality issues utilising root cause and analysis tools
Ability to fault find any low level issues that are encountered and implement any rectifications as required
Optimise programs for cycle time reductions
Communicate with colleagues to ensure the smooth running of the manufacturing process.
Support and participate in Continuous Improvement initiatives across Shop Operations
To carry out any other duties that may be necessary to meet departmental objectives

Person Specification:

Ability to understand, interpret and work to Engineering drawings and to work to tight tolerances
Team player with the ability to work alone and use own initiative with minimum supervision.
Excellent communication and organisational skills.
Flexibility to support the business needs.
An in depth knowledge of laser machining.
Strong mentoring skills with the ability to develop others.
A commitment to implement and develop business improvement initiatives across the cell.
