Role summary To provide an effective, high quality Financial Management service to managers and clinicians. Provide monthly financial management reports, provide support and advice for managers, undertake financial analyses and investigate queries. Ensure that all relevant financial procedures and guidance are adhered to. Key responsibilities MANAGEMENT ACCOUNTS 1.


In conjunction with Management Accountants provide accurate and timely financial information to non-financial managers, incorporating both financial and non-financial data.

Responsible for producing draft budget statements for review by Finance Manager. 2.

To maintain and update information in the finance systems, including the calculation of accruals and prepayments, reviewing interfaces from other systems such as payroll and NHS Supplies and the calculation of recharge invoices 3.

To calculate pay costs for both existing staff establishments and proposed developments. Work with managers to ensure that non-pay budgets reflect the current activity within relevant service areas. 4. To organise and undertake monthly meetings with budget holders where appropriate, to review the financial statements and associated reports.

Ensure that variances are highlighted to budget managers, where necessary advising on the causes 5. Respond to ad-hoc requests for information from budget holders, managers and other service users. 6. Provide any additional monthly reports required, customised to different users needs.


  • To help ensure the full commitment of expenditure within the relevant accounting periods and to assist in the month end financial reporting process. 8. To act independently and show initiative under the supervision of the Deputy Head of Finance.
  • To provide administrative support to the Management Accounts team as well as the Deputy Chief Finance Officer. 10. Regular use of various computer software packages to input and process information from other systems such as payroll, supplies, stock and patient activity data.


To manipulate, analyse and develop this data to provide reports and useful financial information for both trust personnel and external clients.

11. To assist in the creation of systems to facilitate the prompt identification of expenditure trends. 12.

To develop and maintain financial controls such as authorised signatory forms. Maintain the financial coding structures within the main accounting system. 13. To assist in the sending out of budget statements and nominal rolls as required by the financial reporting timetable.


  • To assist in maintaining the integrity of the Trusts financial and manpower systems. 15. To act as a representative of the Finance directorate at various levels of the organisation, including deputising for the Deputy Head of Finance when necessary.
FINANCIAL REGULARITY 16. To be aware of and observe the procedures and policies set out within the Trust's Corporate Governance Manual. 17. Responsible for ensuring that financial transactions are undertaken in accordance with Standing Financial Instructions and Standing Orders.


The post holder is responsible for informing the Chief or Deputy Chief Finance Officer of any breach in SFIs or SOs and reporting incidences of fraud.

18. Ensure that basic journal transactions are prepared and entered accurately into the General Ledger following appropriate authorisation. OTHER DUTIES 19.

To contribute to the delivery of the Finance Department Objectives. To consider key areas for personal development and advise managers accordingly through the Appraisal process. 20.

Responsible for monitoring and updating effective paper and computer based filing systems to ensure clear and concise audit trail is kept of all financial transactions 21.

Plan and organise own work schedule 22.

Ensure that necessary risks taken as part of daily work have been assessed and managed in order to reduce the likelihood of any unfavourable outcome occurring.

23. Any other duties as required.
