General Manager – Iron Ore Operations - London, England

Job summary

We are seeking an experienced General Manager (GM) to lead the complete operational restart and ongoing management of a 1 Mtpa iron ore mine in Amapá, Brazil.

Responsibilities

• Lead day-to-day operations across mining, processing, maintenance, and logistics functions.
• Deliver safe, efficient production aligned with budgeted throughput, cost, and quality targets.
• Implement best-practice operational systems and performance KPIs.
• Oversee mine planning, engineering, and production scheduling.
• Coordinate logistics from mine to port, ensuring seamless integration with off-take and export partners.
• Manage contractors, workforce planning, and local community engagement.
• Drive cost discipline, asset utilisation, and continuous improvement.
• Report regularly to corporate headquarters and the board on operational and financial performance.
• Lead site safety culture and compliance with Brazilian environmental and labour regulations.

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor's degree (or higher) in Mining Engineering, Metallurgy, or related discipline.
• Minimum 10–15 years of experience in open-pit mining, preferably in iron ore or bulk commodities.
• Proven track record in mine restarts, brownfield operations, or turnaround environments.
• Strong understanding of mobile fleet management, plant maintenance, and logistics optimisation.
• Experience managing budgets, P&L responsibility, and team leadership in multi-cultural settings.
• Fluent or proficient in English; working knowledge of Portuguese or Spanish is an advantage.
• Willingness to be based on-site in Amapá, on rotation or residential assignment.
