To provide specialist Speech and Language Therapy assessment and treatment for patients with dysphagia, laryngeal or communication needs presenting to the CFT Respiratory Service.

To contribute to Pulmonary Rehabilitation groups in North/East Cornwall, alongside the multi-disciplinary team. Undertake research and service development as necessary.

Main duties of the job:


  • To provide specialist advice and support to multidisciplinary colleagues in the Respiratory Service and other professionals Countywide involved in the delivery of pulmonary rehabilitation.
  • Maintain and strengthen links with other teams eg. Community Matron Service, Acute Care at Home Service, Homefirst, District Nursing and GPs.
  • To collaborate with CFT,RCHT and UHP Highly Specialist SLTs to develop best practise across a variety of clinical pathways where pulmonary factors also play a significant part in the management of dysphagia and/or laryngeal function
  • Develop strong links with Peer Support Groups and promote patient selfmanagement in the community working in partnership with British Lung Foundation and other relevant agencies.
  • Communicates with colleagues in the Respiratory Service and wider MDT's, service users, carers, stakeholders, the public and their representatives, ensuring effective and accurate information is delivered.
  • To liaise regularly with Team Lead regarding treatment progression and ongoing care of patients.
  • Liaison with District Therapy Team colleagues, Multidisciplinary Team colleagues, Patients/Carers/Relatives, Administrative and clerical staff, Directorate for Adult Care and Support staff, GP's, Community Matrons, Specialist Agencies, Voluntary Agencies.
  • To provide leadership to junior staff and support staff through supervision, training and appraisal.
