Our client in Oxford City Centre are looking for a Deputy Hall Supervisor, to join their team on a full time basis.

The Deputy Hall Supervisor, under the direction of the Front of House Manager and Hall Supervisor, shares responsibility for leading and carrying out catering provision to students, staff, fellows and College guests throughout the term and vacation periods.

The role has shared responsibility for ensuring an efficient day-to-day running of the College Café.

Some of the duties and responsibilities required include:

  • Deputising for the Hall Supervisor in their absence.
  • Assisting with provision of the SCR food and beverage service in and out of term.
  • Providing a high level of general service for all SCR members, especially on guest nights and other special functions.
  • Supporting the Front of House and Hall Managers in carrying out student food and beverage provision in various College locations wherever dining is provided.
  • Supporting the Front of House and Hall Managers in operating the cash register for student meal and snack purchases, including cashing up at the end of service if and when required.
  • Assisting with the provision of all food and beverages supplied to conference delegates and supporting the Front of House Manager and Hall Manager with internal and external functions.


We are looking for someone with relevant experience within a catering and / or college establishment, with particular emphasis on evidence of the successful supervision and management of waiting staff.

You will have good communication and inter-personal skills and a minimum Level 2 Food Safety & Hygiene for Catering. A flexible attitude to work with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.


The post is full time 40 hrs per week offered on a permanent basis with a salary of £23,400 per annum.

Generous annual leave entitlement will be calculated with reference to the length of time worked. This is 5 days out of 7 position, including evening and weekend work.

Desirable selection criteria Previous knowledge of cash handling. Previous experience of databases, although training will be provided. Previous knowledge of Allergen legislation. Barista trained or willing to undergo training as required. Knowledge of food and wine pairing. Previous knowledge of fine dining.
