  • The National Audit Office (NAO) is the UK's main public sector audit body. Independent of government, we have responsibility for auditing the accounts of various public sector bodies, examining the propriety of government spending, assessing risks to financial control and accountability, and reviewing the economy, efficiency and effectiveness of programmes, projects, and activities. We report directly to Parliament, through the Committee of Public Accounts of the House of Commons which uses our reports as the basis of its own investigations. We employ some 900 staff, most of whom are qualified accountants, trainees, or technicians. They work in one of two main areas, financial audit (FA), or value for money (VfM) audit.
  • The Executive Assistant will provide administrative support to the Private Secretaries (PSs) for financial audit and value for money audit, and support the Senior Executive Assistant (SEA) in managing the Private Office which supports the Comptroller and Auditor General (C&AG). The role of an Executive Assistant requires a combination of skills (listed below), as well as having the ability to manage multiple task and priorities.

  • Executive Assistant tasks will include:
  • Assisting with administering the Private Office OneNote used to manage Private Office papers.
  • Assist with travel arrangements for both domestic and overseas visit including preparation of itineraries.
  • Providing onsite support including preparing rooms for external meetings and escorting external guests, printing papers.
  • Other administrative tasks as required such as records management and archiving, mail merges, administrative support for events.
  • Support the VfM Private Secretary, including preparing pro forma letters for review, keeping the C&AG's diary up to date with key dates, liaising with teams to arrange meetings at key project milestones.
  • Support the FA Private Secretary, including administrative support for managing the C&AG's correspondence, and financial audit certification process.
  • Provide cover in the Private Office SEA's absence and at busy times, such as diary management and maintaining the OneNote, supported by the PSs.
  • Provide cover to SEAs/EAs in the corporate group, as and when required.

  • Proven experience as an executive assistant or in a similar role, providing administrative support to executives.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines in a fastpaced environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally with individuals at all levels.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to develop and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy in all work, including document preparation, data management, and correspondence.
  • Proficient in using productivity tools, such as Microsoft Office Suite (OneNote, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) or equivalent software.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion and maintain the highest level of professionalism.
  • Strong problemsolving skills, with the ability to anticipate needs, think critically, and offer effective solutions.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to changing priorities and demands, with a positive attitude and the ability to work well under pressure and as part of a team.
