An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Clinical Trials Assistant within BRC, Directorate.


This is an 18 month fixed term contract to support NIHR BioResource activity within Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

The post holder will be part of the NIHR Sheffield Biomedical Research Centre (BRC) BioResource Team and will be responsible for the delivery of this study.

The post holder will work with BRC, Directorate Teams and the Clinical Research Facility.

They will be required to assist in the delivery of first class quality care to research participants and researchers who support research activity across the Trust.


The post holder will assist in supporting NIHR BioResource from study set up to archiving, in accordance with the clinical trial protocol, laboratory manual and all relevant regulatory standards.


The role will involve completing and submitting documents to obtain approvals; collecting, recording and maintaining research data records; entering activity data and extracting information from databases, and they will provide clinical and administrative support to the BioResource Research Nurse.


They will also perform clinical tests and investigations, process and ship BioResource biological samples and assist with screening and recruitment processes.


This vacancy is advertised on a fixed term contract basis for a period of 18 months due to the post being recruited as part of a limited term project within the Trust.

The fixed term contract status of the post holder will be reviewed in accordance with the Trust's legal obligations regarding fixed term contracts taking into consideration the requirement for the post to be maintained as a part of the project's implementation and the timescales associated with this.

The NIHR Sheffield BRC (BRC) is a research partnership between Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (STHFT) and the University of Sheffield, dedicated to improving the treatment and care of people living with debilitating conditions.


Research within the BRC focusses on chronic neurological disorders, cardiovascular disorders, and patients with compromised immunity, chronic inflammatory diseases and emerging infections.

The BRC drives research innovation into tangible benefits for patients and the wider society, whilst enhancing the position of the UK as the preferred partner for experimental medicine collaborations.


Clinical research projects take place in conjunction with partners within STHFT and will be supported by the NIHR Sheffield Clinical Research Facility (CRF).

The BRC has recently been awarded NIHR Sheffield BioResource Centre status. The NIHR BioResource recruits and maintains data and samples donated by over 200,000 people.

Researchers can use this resource to identify potential participants for studies to understand the links between genes, the environment, health and disease.
