Senior Nursery Practitioners are responsible to the Nursery Manager and the Nursery Owner.


Duties will include:


  • To ensure a high standard of physical, emotional, social and intellectual care for children placed in the Nursery. To give support to other personnel within the Nursery. To implement the daily routine in the play room. To safeguard the wellbeing of all children within our care and ensure all staff within your room are aware of their responsibility in relation to safeguarding children. Formulate and operate a programme of activities suitable to the age range of children in your area in conjunction with the current government recommended curriculum, alongside other staff members including the manager. To keep an accurate PLJ file including observations on your key children, for parents where applicable. Prepare all the children's records in your group and arrange reviews for parents, in conjunction with the Manager. Work with parents of special or additional needs children to achieve full integration in the setting. Foresee the needs of children with special needs and give physical, emotional, intellectual guidance as appropriate. Support all staff in their personal development plans and engage in a good staff team. Liaise with and support parents and other family members. Liaise with the Local Authority and other professionals associated with the setting when applicable. Attend, direct and have input on staff meetings. Undertake certain domestic jobs within the setting, e.g. preparation of snack meals, cleansing of equipment and rooms and such other duties and responsibilities of an equivalent nature as may be determined from time to time by the Manager. Participate in the training programmes of a wide variety of students (i.e. placements and volunteers), by giving guidance and support. Work alongside the Manager and staff team to ensure that the ethos of the nursery is fulfilled. To ensure good standards of hygiene and cleanliness are maintained at all times and be responsible for the Health and Safety standards appropriate for the needs of young children. Record accidents and incidents. Ensure the manager has signed the report before the parent receives it. To ensure confidentiality of information received. To develop and maintain good relationships and communications with parents/carers to facilitate daytoday caring needs. Ensure child is collected by someone known to nursery and that the password system is used within the setting. To ensure that all regular staff within your room are aware of the expectations and standards and adhere to them at all times. To assist the new staff with the completion of their training sheets. Participate and contribute in Professional Review and Development processes. Participate and contribute in training to support professional and personal development. To inspect procedures within the playroom and designated areas such as recording, observations and assessment of groups/individual children to meet the Nursery's objectives and that of The Care Inspectorate. To represent Manager/Deputy in their absence to ensure delivery of a quality service.
