Clinical:

To provide specialist behavioural assessments of clients referred to the FIND In-reach team, usually based on applied behavioural analysis.

This involves the appropriate use, interpretation and integration of complex data from a variety of sources including psychological tests, self-report measures, rating scales, direct and indirect structured observations and semi-structured interviews with clients, family members and others involved in the clients care.

To formulate and implement plans for the appropriate treatment, intervention and/or management of a clients emotional, behavioural and developmental problems, within a Positive Behaviour Support Plan, and employing ethical methods based upon evidence of efficacy.

To evaluate and make decisions about treatment options taking into account highly complex factors concerning historical and developmental processes that have shaped the challenges experienced by the individual, family, group or service.

To facilitate / participate in Psychological therapy groups as identified by service need.

To be responsible for the assessment, treatment, intervention and discharge of clients whose problems are managed by Positive Behaviour Support plans.

To produce and facilitate the production of Positive Behaviour Support plans and risk assessments.

To communicate effectively with clients, carers, nursing staff and work colleagues with and without learning disabilities or autism using appropriate methods, for example speech, writing, sign language, symbols, photos and objects of reference wherever necessary.

To provide specialist behavioural advice, guidance and consultation to other professionals contributing directly to clients formulation, diagnosis and treatment plan.

To contribute directly and indirectly to the psychological/behavioural understanding and care to the benefit of all clients of the service, across all settings and agencies serving the client group.

To undertake risk assessment and risk management for individual clients and to provide advice to other professionals on psychological/behavioural aspects of risk assessment and risk management for the individual and their environment.

To undertake screening and management of incoming referrals.

To communicate in a skilled and sensitive manner, information concerning the assessment, formulation and treatment/intervention plans of clients under their care and to monitor progress during both uni
- and multi-disciplinary and multi-agency care. Teaching, training, and supervision To receive regular clinical professional and managerial supervision from an appropriate psychological or behavioural professional and, where appropriate, other senior professional colleagues. To keep up to date with developments related to adults with learning disabilities and autism, especially those with challenging or offending behaviour. This will involve exploring, identifying and attending appropriate development activities to promote personal and professional skill development.

To continue to gain wider post-qualification experience of psychological/behavioural, which would enhance current practice.

To develop skills and facilitate teaching and training of staff and carers and others, related to the area of people with learning disabilities, as appropriate.

To provide professional and clinical supervision of assistant/graduate psychologists, specialist support workers, behavioural specialists, and relevant others, and to contribute to the supervision of individual cases/pieces of work for trainee clinical psychologists.

To contribute to the pre
- and post-qualification teaching of relevant staff and others, related to the area of people with learning disabilities.

To provide advice and consultation to staff working with the client group across a range of agencies and settings, where appropriate.

Management, recruitment, policy and service development To contribute to the development, evaluation and monitoring of operational policies and services, through the deployment of relevant specialist knowledge and skills in research, service evaluation and audit.

Ability to work independently, reliably and consistently with work agreed and managed at regular intervals.

To report and ensure any complaints, incidents, accidents or losses in relation to service users, staff or property are dealt with by the appropriate person and or line manager in accordance with Trust guidelines / policies.

To be familiar with word processing, database and statistical packages, and to use such packages for complex data analysis as necessary.

To use appropriate computer software to develop and create clinical or other service-related reports or documents.

Research and service evaluation To utilise theory, evidence-based literature and research to support evidence-based practice in individual and service work.
