The Appointment:


As part of the Student Services, the School Liaison Officer is a key role in ensuring that the College effectively engages with young people, their parents, carers, teachers and careers advisers, making them fully aware of the range of progression opportunities available at Southport College and KGV.

Focusing mainly on Year 8 to

Year 11 pupils, the position involves relationship building with staff at local/regional schools and careers centres through frequent visits and attendance at day and evening events.

The role also includes taking an active part in documenting school liaison activity on social media platforms and developing on line loyalty.

Internally, the post holder will contribute to the organisation of open days/evenings and other events which are student facing.

The post holder will be responsible to the Head of Student Services.


The Post:


  • Contribute to the planning, design and creation of a range of dynamic, interactive activities to engage young people.
  • Visit schools to deliver and present information about progression opportunities available including School Links provision, particularly to those pupils in Year 8, 9,


10 and 1- Support the transition of young people into College by providing information, both at external events and during visits to the College.


  • Provide tours of the College for young people and their chaperones, often in close liaison with their school.
  • Play a key role in the organisation and arrangement of College open evenings/days, in particular liaising with feeder schools to encourage their students' attendance.
  • Coordinate key College schoolleaver events such as taster days and careers staff briefings.
  • Collaborating with the wider College teams develop and communicate in depth knowledge of the College offer for school leavers including apprenticeship pathways and positively promote the appropriate route for potential students.
  • Inform parents and guardians of post16 options and progression routes including, where appropriate HE at Southport College, through attendance at parents' evenings, information evenings and through correspondence.

  • Establish partnerships with schools and other key stakeholders such as careers advisers.
  • Ensure that relationships are built and maintained with potential students, utilising a variety of approaches.
  • Contribute to achieving the College recruitment targets and strategic plan, particularly in relation to schools, as directed by the Head of Student Services
  • Take the lead in coordinating College Student Ambassadors and provide appropriate training and briefings to enable them to effectively undertake the role.
  • Take an active part in documenting school liaison activity on social media platforms including Facebook, twitter and Instagram
  • Project manage the development of keeping warm materials to support the work of the admissions team and the achievement of growth targets.
  • Gather and collate data in relation to school liaison activity.
  • Collaborate with the College marketing team as and when student case studies are required for key publications including the main 1619 prospectus.
  • Keep abreast of new qualification routes and options available to those looking to enter Further Education.
  • Travel to and from schools and external meetings as appropriate, often transporting heavy boxes of promotional materials to locations including those not always accessible by public transport.
  • Attend evening events both at schools and in College as required.
  • Undertake a range of administration duties, as directed by Head of Student
Services.

  • Use College IT systems in order to complete your duties and responsibilities.
  • The postholder will be expected to work flexibly and to undertake any other duties that may, from time to time, be reasonably allocated by the line manager.
The above duties are indicative of the requirements of the post at the time of recruitment.

It is management policy that roles and responsibilities are reviewed on a regular basis leading to possible modifications where appropriate.

Experience of delivering information in an engaging format to school aged audiences e.g. formal presentations, interactive group sessions, one-to-one D I/AS discussions etc.
