This is not a Bristol City Council Role.

This is a part time vacancy, 3 days per week (18.5h).


Adoption West is a regional adoption agency and registered voluntary adoption agency that provides adoption services for Bath & North East Somerset, Bristol, Gloucestershire, North Somerset, South Gloucestershire and Wiltshire Councils.

Adoption West operates out of 3 hubs across the region, with offices based in Bristol, Gloucester and Trowbridge.


This is an exciting time for you to join Adoption West and help to improve our information management, data quality and performance monitoring.

You will play a central role in supporting the adopter assessment, family finding and adoption support processes.

We are looking to recruit an information officer to work across our teams and with our local authority partners to improve data quality, optimise our use of information management systems, enhance performance monitoring and reporting and develop new information management processes.


Key responsibilities are to:

  • Scope, design and write reports using appropriate software to produce statistics as required for statutory returns and local management needs.
  • Analyse and interpret data as required in order to provide managers with information that is used to inform strategic decision making and management of performance
  • Validate the quality of statistical information produced by information management systems, following up with managers where necessary to achieve quality data.
  • Develop and maintain knowledge of the services business process, work flow and management information
  • Identify needs for collection and analysis of data in light of changing requirements
  • Contribute to the development of practice and procedures employed by colleagues and other stakeholders inputting data to systems, through offering advice and support.
  • Develop and maintain detailed knowledge of user functions of information management systems utilised by the service
  • Provide support and advice to projects in relation to management information.

The post will report to the Business Manager.


You will need:


  • Professional Qualification in Information Systems / Information technology
  • A levels with GCSE in English, mathematics / statistics
  • Excellent IT skills including Advanced Excel skills e.g. charts, pivot tables, filtering.
  • Ability to create and manipulate reports using e.g. Business Objects, SQL
  • Ability to create / and analyse statistical reports, use reporting software
  • Well organised and methodical / logical thinker
  • Ability to set up and review systems and procedures
  • Able to work to deadlines and use own initiative
  • Able to adapt to the changing needs of the service
