£38,296 with the opportunity to progress to a maximum of £42,503 per annum

Job Duties:


The post holder will have a fair understanding of the complex nature of health determinants and how they drive health inequalities particularly around obesity, cancer, diabetes, mental health, and homelessness.

He/she will be responsible for designing and conducting robust and comprehensive evaluations for the Place Based Health Inequalities (PBHI) project and the supplementary work (Mental Health, Wider Determinants and Sustainability) which is being led by Public Health in Hertfordshire.


Although based in the Public Health Evidence & Intelligence Team, the post holder will be working directly with the Health Inequalities Team and will also be required to work across other Public Health directorate in a pro-active and seamless manner and work with other internal and external stakeholders.


The main purpose of the role is to:

  • Work closely with the Health Inequalities Lead and the Senior Research and Evaluation Officer, other Research and Evaluation Officers, District & Borough Councils, and the Health Inequalities Team to develop, design and implement evaluations for key health inequalities projects
  • Put in place appropriate quantitative data collection processes to meet the needs of the evaluation and ensure that the data is analysed within the agreed project timescales
  • Undertake qualitative data collection, transcription and analysis using appropriate methods
  • Proactively manage all aspects of the evaluation process, including identifying and overcoming barriers to delivery of a robust evaluation and escalating issues to the Senior Research and Evaluation Officer and/or other team members as appropriate
  • Keep Public Health colleagues and District Health Inequality Leads informed of the progress of the evaluation through verbal and written updates and attendance at relevant group meetings as required, including regular attendance at key meetings
  • Present the findings of the evaluations to stakeholders in a highquality report and slide set
  • Liaise with the Health Inequality Lead to disseminate the findings of the evaluation to senior managers, commissioners, and stakeholders through verbal presentations, as required


The post holder will be working on a complex health inequalities core project which interconnects with additional supplementary projects such as mental health, wider determinants, and sustainability and will be required to establish if the key project outcomes for each district has been achieved.

This will require the ability to work on multiple evaluations so they will need to manage their time appropriately.
