Description

As a Barclays JAVA Developer, you will work in the BATS team and develop Java projects for the Markets Pre-Trade department as defined by business requirements and prioritization.

You will fit into the team and the current code base, making it your ownand use this as a based to be able to design and develop new components.

This will include ongoing re-implementations of the existing code base, extensions thereof and ongoing maintenance of those systems.

What will you be doing?:


  • Developing solutions to problems both tactical and strategic as the business requires it
  • Developing technical solutions to regulatory, cyber, security and tech debt obligations
  • Providing estimates for tasks, including design, development and testing
  • Proposing solutions to complex problems that are in keeping with the existing system architecture
  • Analysing expedited situations and delivering rapid resolutions
  • Acknowledging the impact of any change when defining solutions and build this into estimates

What we're looking for:


  • Excellent Java programming skills with focus on core Java technology
  • Solid knowledge and experience of working in a unix environment
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills
  • Excellent academic record with a numerate degree (2:1 or higher) or equivalent, in e.g. computer science, maths, physics, engineering

Skills that will help you in the role:

  • Experience of developing low latency trading systems, with extensive knowledge of concurrency and Java and system performance tuning, messaging etc.
  • Front office banking experience
  • Knowledge of KDB
  • Expertise in DevOps area
