Description

To ensure compliance with Trading Standards legislation primarily covering product safety, fair trading and metrology (and other areas as required) by providing business advice and support, developing Primary Authority relationships, undertaking market surveillance, inspection and sampling activities, responding to complaints and enquiries, and working with officers responsible for criminal investigations in order to achieve and improve levels of compliance.

Contribute towards service planning and assist in the design, development and delivery of team plans.

Deliver operational action plans and projects in order to raise standards of compliance and deliver improved regulatory outcomes.


Lead and support the development and delivery of a programme of regulatory and enforcement service and team projects and activities to identify and reduce risks to consumers and businesses.

Lead on service and team projects as required.

Take a lead role in a technical area of work where specialist knowledge is required.


Utilise a range of regulatory approaches including evidence-based research, risk assessment and intelligence-led targeting in order to identify and investigate non-compliant business activities and bring them into compliance.


Undertake comprehensive and professional research and analysis in order to provide businesses with high quality, accurate and timely advice on the implementation of complex legislation and standards.


Utilise a wide range of regulatory techniques in order to successfully achieve regulatory outcomes and improve compliance levels in the most effective and efficient way.


Undertake high level auditing and assessment of complex business processes and operations and make appropriate recommendations for change and improvement in order to improve compliance levels.


Utilise problem solving, negotiation and mediation to resolve complex issues and complaints reported by consumers, businesses, partner agencies and other services.


Undertake work that contributes to complex investigations in accordance with the Council's Better Regulation and Enforcement Policy, including collection and preparation of evidence and liaison with investigators to ensure that prosecution cases meet the very highest legal and professional standards and achieve successful outcomes.


Prepare, present and make recommendations and appear as a witness in complex prosecutions or in other judicial or enforcement processes.

Support and direct/supervise Technical, Specialist, and Support officers on operational matters.

Act on behalf of the Team Manager in their absence and as required.
