Description

Associate Director Commercial (Consultancy) - Aviation

The opportunity

  • Project:
  • Mace are undertaking a Delivery Partner role on Manchester Airport, undertaking major upgrade and enhancement works to Terminal 2 as part of the final phase of a £1.3bn transformation programme.
  • The works will see the creation of a brandnew pier that will provide 12 new boarding gates and flexible aircraft stands for nextgeneration aircraft.
  • The pier forms a significant element of the second and final phase of the airport's £1.3bn Transformation Programme (MAN-TP) which, when outlined in 2015, set a 10year vision to revolutionise the passenger experience at the UK's global gateway in the north.
  • The first phase saw a programme of works to more than double the size of Terminal 2. The £440m second phase will see the original building enhanced with a second security hall and extended departure lounge, along with reconfigurations of the airfield to make operations more efficient. Upon opening in 2025, around 80% of all airport passengers will use the expanded Terminal
  • With an ambitious construction deadline, Mace is placing emphasis on driving an optimised programme. A construction management procurement approach, breaking down the design and delivery packages into overlapping phases and leverages a range of skilled contractors, is one method that is helping to achieve this.
  • Modern methods of construction (MMC) and industry innovations are also helping to speed up delivery, with the added benefits of supporting Manchester Airport's commitment to be net zero carbon by 2038 and minimising impact on the airport's operations which must continue as normal throughout.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Conducting feasibility studies, business cases and writing procurement reports.
  • Managing estimating and cost planning activities to include taking ownership of and presenting the final cost plan.
  • Managing the procurement process, ensuring that all stages including prequalification, enquiry, analysis, selection and contract preparation are performed effectively.
  • Ensuring that post contract cost variances and change control processes are managed effectively.
  • Ensuring that cost checking and valuation work is managed effectively.
  • Ensuring the production of monthly postcontract cost reports and presenting them to the client.
  • Being in attendance at meetings and active participation.
  • Value engineering and life cycle costing.
  • Ensuring that final accounts are negotiated and agreed.
  • Being a key interface with client and other consultants, at all project stages.
  • Marketing and business development duties, particularly in your sector of experience including being mindful of the need to support the consultancy team in promoting Mace in the region.
  • Providing line management and overseeing the recruitment.
