Description

As Support Secretary the postholder will be required to provide a range of secretarial and clerical services to support the smooth running of day to day operational issues for the supporting the Clinical Teams, thus enabling a whole team approach with the aim of improving patient services and care.

The Support Secretary will be expected to portray a positive image and be able to liaise in a professional manner with clients, colleagues and visitors.


The Child and Adolescent Mental Health Directorate are looking to appoint one full time enthusiastic and suitably qualified Support Medical Secretary.

The full time post will be 37.5 hours per week on fixed term contract for 12 months.


The main purpose of this post will be to provide Secretarial office duties such as transcribing medical correspondence, audio typing, clerking clinics at other hospital sites, undertake mail and filing duties, retrieving patients medical notes, managing patient pathways via WPAS, as well as handling queries from patients, relatives, carers and external partners on a regular day to day basis.

The post holder will be required to demonstrate excellent typing, communication, organisational, clerical and IT skills.

They will need to be able to work using their own initiative while also working well as a team member.


It would be an advantage if the post holder was familiar with the NHS information systems and in particular WPAS (Myrddin).

They will need to have a sound knowledge of a range of Microsoft office packages.


An understanding of customer care and meeting the needs of the general public is necessary for this position, therefore an excellent telephone and communication manner will need to be demonstrated.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Use in-depth knowledge of a range of secretarial procedures to include medical terminology and medical audio/copy typing along with minute taking to support the Consultant Child Psychiatrist and clinical team.


The emphasis within the team will be on team working, sharing of knowledge and experience for the overall benefit of the organisation.


Also to ensure that through personal development the post holder should assist in the implementation of Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board policies and procedures in order to achieve required organisational objectives.
