The Cardiff site is Pharmaron's global centre of excellence for the custom chemical synthesis of drug and complex chemical substances radiolabelled with tritium or carbon-14.

The EHS team provides the site with environmental, health and safety advice as well as radiological safety support.

The team is responsible for ensuring compliance with the sites EPR2010 environmental permit and with all applicable health and safety legislation.

Assistant EHS Specialist.

Job Summary


To assist with the practical provision of radiological safety support to all site functions and permit compliance including the safe packaging, storage and disposal of waste.


Key roles and responsibilities:


  • Carry out radiological and environment surveys, ensuring compliance with company and statutory regulations, maintaining accurate records of all tests and surveys in the approved format to meet regulatory requirements.
  • Identify and report on abnormalities and trends identified in surveys and monitoring programmes.
  • Give advice, recommendations and assistance to facilities staff and contractors on radiological/environmental safety and waste assessments.
  • Assist in the provision of dosimetry surveillance arrangements for employees and facilitate decontamination of staff, visitors and contractors when they report with levels above the clothing and skin contamination limits.
  • Facilitate the onsite radioactive waste consignment of solid radioactive waste to the onsite incinerator including the destruction of the waste and facilitate the onsite processing of aqueous radioactive waste using the AO electrochemical plant.
  • Facilitate the offsite radioactive waste consignment of organic liquid and solid radioactive waste to the offsite incineration contractor specified in the EPR2016 permit and facilitate the offsite radioactive waste consignment of aqueous radioactive waste to the offsite disposal point specified in the EPR2016 permit.
  • Carry out clearance monitoring on items leaving designated areas of site and enforce the accepted clearance levels in order to control contamination outside the designated areas to ALARP levels.
  • Facilitate the onsite radioactive waste measurement of radioactive discharges via the stack.
  • Assist the provision of the Site's liquid scintillation counters including the arrangement for servicing and the method for calibration and function checking.
  • Ensure that analytical and monitoring equipment is maintained to the required schedule.
  • Participate and assist with the site risk assessment process.

Qualification:


Requirements:


  • GCSE level or equivalent
  • Have an understanding and awareness of the need for good safety processes and procedures
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to analyse and write up data
  • Competence in the use of Microsoft Software packages Word, Excel and Powerpoint
  • Proven ability to work in an organized manner and effectively prioritise tasks to achieve deadlines
  • Ability to handle pressure and difficult situations in a professional manner

Desirable:


  • A level or equivalent
  • Full clean driving license
