Description

This is a new and exciting opportunity for a Registered Nurse (Adult) to work with Pre-Registration Student Nurses at Harrogate District Hospital.


This post is initially offered as a one year fix term post funded by Health Education England to help support the development of new clinical placement opportunities for Student Nurses.


The role will allow the individual to develop a variety of both clinically and classroom based teaching and assessing skills.


The post holder should have recent acute clinical experience so that they are able to support and work alongside Pre-Registration Nurses with the Hospital setting.


As part of the role, the post holder will work with the Practice Education Team to maximise available learning resources within the Trust.

Education & Development

  • Develop, implement and deliver competencybased work based clinical education and contribute to assessment of students.
  • To work alongside Students in acute hospital based practice setting to provide direct workbased teaching.
  • Work with clinical teams to ensure Students are exposed to a wide range of learning opportunities.
  • To further develop own competence and ability to teach a wider range of skills as required by the Students.
  • Contribute to assessment of practice, ensuring students meet programme requirements.
  • Identify and support Students to arrange further skills training for that which is not possible in the clinical setting.
  • Liaising with multidisciplinary colleagues to encourage multidisciplinary training and education.
  • Demonstrate the links between theory, practice and research to ensure that all Students achieve the level of knowledge and competency appropriate to their roles and responsibilities.
  • Develop, review and update teaching materials, amend as indicated by evidence/research and ensure materials are widely available and accessed.
  • Contribute to monitoring of Students progress including tripartite assessments with the University
  • Provide support and advice to clinical teams and assessors regarding activities of the new role.
  • Patient Safety
  • To promote the organisational patient safety culture through education and training.
  • Support clinical governance processes by embedding reduction of risk into the education and development of staff.
  • To support innovative learning opportunities in the ward/clinical setting through liaison with other key clinical trainers.
  • Ensuring patient safety remains a key focus during the development and delivery of training.
  • To be up to date with Trust & National policies and procedures informing health and social care.
  • Alter or adjust training programmes in response to changes in policy, practice, identified risks etc.
Personal Development

  • To be an active member of the trust Practice Educator network, keeping up to date with new developments and in the sharing of good practice.
  • Establish excellent working relationships with all professional groups.
  • Disseminate good practice locally and liaise with colleagues in other trusts.
  • To participate in research/evaluation projects where relevant.
  • Recognise own limitation and access relevant training and work based assessment training.
  • Maintain competency and update personal knowledge on clinical practice/skills being delivered.
  • To understand own limits in knowledge and not deliver any training in which you are not deemed competent.
  • Access and support from other clinical skills trainers around the region. For example, in the use of simulation equipment, this will also ensure teaching practices are uniform across the network between providers.
  • Be up to date in all statutory and mandatory training.
Facility Management

  • Publicise the training opportunities to all potential users.
  • Responsible for effective coordination and management of the training functions.
  • Actively participate in relevant education audit, monitoring and QA.
  • Ensure that accurate records of training and assessments are maintained.
  • Provide pastoral care to students addressing difficulties where possible and referring where necessary to appropriate support mechanism.
