We currently have exciting opportunities for Assistant Buyers to join our Product team.

As Assistant Buyer in the Product Stream your role will be to manage the Product life cycle from development through to readiness for selection.

You will negotiate all product including packaging in line with margin targets and the critical path, inputting product details into the system accurately ready for the Partner team to select.


This role is working 4 days in our Billericay, Essex Office.

Product Development

  • Maintain Product boards & Product library images through to approval
  • Manage approval meetings, ensuring packaging is fit for purpose, communicating any issues or changes to packaging team to prevent delays to the critical path.
  • Brief packaging team on new packaging requirements in line with critical path
  • Contribute to product development, working with design to interpret and adapt market trends that meet the needs of your customer
  • Understand appropriate sourcing and supplier routes for your product, regularly reviewing mixes and supplier capabilities
  • Work alongside QC and Sourcing offices throughout the development process, ensuring all products are to standards, highlighting risks to the Buyer
  • Build supplier relations obtaining cost prices within critical path timings
  • Manage costings (including open costings) and build an understanding of materials and manufacturing techniques.
  • Negotiate best possible cost price; maximizing profit whilst maintaining quality and highlight any risk to margin to your Buyer
  • Offer solutions to cost engineer product where margin does not align to brands KPI, with guidance from the Buyer
  • Working alongside product techs to understand impact of test costs on product margin (where relevant)
  • Action approval comments with supplier where product changes affect price or margin & renegotiate if necessary
  • Manage the input of product and packaging (for originating brand) into WFX ensuring all details are accurate for the Partner team to select from and build online descriptions for the host.
  • Ensure clear & concise product notes are entered into the system for supplier enquiries
  • Present your subrange in sign off meeting with Directors (where applicable)
  • Regularly review competitors, ensuring products and packaging remain ahead of the competition
  • Regularly visit stores to review delivery of product ranges, feeding back to the team your findings, driving actions, opportunities and managing risk
  • Regularly review supplier performance, feeding back to Buyer Contribute & present an area of your Brand's strategy with the support of your Buyer: delivering new strategy ideas in a structured and measured way

Skills, experience, and qualifications:


  • Experience working in a Assistant Buyer or Senior Buyer's Assistant role for 1 year +
  • Competent numerical skills for negotiation and trading.
  • Fully understand the impact of all range decision on margin % and value for the business.
  • Good working ability with relevant IT systems (Microsoft Office).
  • Strong and developed understanding of the retail market, fashion trends and brand positioning, both UK and internationally.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate and present, competently and clearly, a good assertive influencer. Strong organisational and task management skills, with the ability to manage own workload and oversee the work of others.
