Description
The post holder will be responsible for the Children's Community Nursing Team. This team provides a variety of home based specialist clinical care for children, as well as generic support and nursing care for families of children in terminal stages of life


The post holder will provide, maintain, monitor and ensure user and carer involvement throughout services in relation to planning delivery, and the quality of services.

The post holder will assist the Head of Service in the operational management of the service.

Included in this is the comprehensive responsibility for assuring adequate and qualitative service provision as well as recruitment decisions, retention, grievance and disciplinary matters, appraisal and sickness absence.


The post holder will monitor service workload, caseload allocation and have responsibility for ensuring that appropriate induction, mentoring and support of other more junior staff takes place.

This post covers a countywide service that at times operates a 24/7 service.

Therefore it is expected that travelling across county will occur and that post holder will participate in on call rotas on weekends or out of hours.

This is a rare occurrence and is required when the service is supporting children to die at home.

Clinical:

To support children having access to end of life care in their home


Provide education, training and development for individuals in team to enhance skill mix and help them to work to their full capacity.

Facilitate and oversee the referral criteria and access to the service.


Leadership:

Represent the Children's Community Nursing Team as required at internal and external meetings. Attending clinical meetings and non-clinical meetings as required.


Assist the Head of Service in the process of recruitment, retention, performance, management, care delivery and professional leadership of the Service.


To be responsible for the direct line management of the community nurses and oversee their recruitment, career development, and appraisals.

Lead practice development including identifying areas requiring evaluation/audit


To demonstrate clear knowledge and skills in relation to child protection issues and to provide full support to the team for these issues.

Assist the Head of Service in the investigation of any incidents and action the necessary recommendations.


To work with the Head of Service to maintain high clinical governance standards across the whole service, compiling reports as required.
