**About the role

As a Team Leader at GHD you will be responsible for leading a team of professionals specialising in the delivery of discipline specific projects.

In addition to managing your own portfolio of projects you will be accountable for the performance of your team and be someone who strives to motivate, develop and engage and assure the wellbeing of their their team members.


The role can be based from our Newcastle, Manchester, Chester, Leeds, York or Nottingham office, but we do operate a hybrid working environment, which provides the opportunity to work from home as well as one of our offices.

**Skills, experience and qualifications

  • Degree in a relevant engineering / geological field, together with a recognised postgraduate geotechnical qualification
  • Chartered status with the ICE, IMMM or the Geological Society.
  • Actively working towards or already at 'ROGEP' accreditation Take responsibility for personal development and support the learning of others.
  • Significant experience of geotechnical design of earthworks, slopes, retaining walls, underground structures, building structures, ideally in a variety of sectors. Experience in the rail sector would be a particular advantage.
  • Significant experience in preparation and checking of wellpresented design calculations, notes, reports and general correspondence
  • You will be conversant with Eurocodes and leading industry analysis and software for the design of slopes and retaining walls
  • Significant experience in preparing, running and interpreting finite element packages such as 'RS2' and/or 'PLAXIS' would be a distinct advantage
  • Experience and understanding of multidisciplinary design process
  • A knowledge of practices and procedures used within the water, transportation and/or energy sectors essential
  • Strong communication skills;
  • Strong relationship building and influencing skills;
  • Capacity to plan and manage within a 12 year time horizon;
  • Strong coaching and mentoring skills.
  • Proven experience in achieving project performance and business targets
  • Experience of managing others or managing small teams
  • Strong record of delivering technical excellence through others.
**Core responsibilities

Client Delivery

  • The Team Leader role is responsible for leading a small team of design professionals specialising in the input of Geotechnical expertise across internal multiple projects. It is envisaged that this will include the delivery of a significant portfolio of work into GHD's Australian, Canadian and American business. As well as being responsible for small Geotechnical scopes to internal projects you will be accountable for reviewing the work of externally procured Geotechnical services on larger more complex scopes of work
  • You may be called upon to make recommendations when scoping and assessing the complexity of projects and when appointing subconsultants.
  • Collaborates with own technical discipline within the wider GHD business to secure additional projects needed to maintain own team members and personal utilisation.
  • Directly inputs to the business plan for the business group.
  • Ensures company standards are implemented and adhered to across own Group.

Business development

  • Develops business by maintaining client relationships internally and externally and ensuring client loyalty and repeat work through promoting excellent customer service and delivery across team
  • Leads the development and submission of proposals for routine, low risk projects

Leadership

  • Ensures own team is suitably resourced to deliver on projects, including being accountable for hiring and selection of own team members.
  • Trains and develops team members, ensuring all employees have access to high quality engaging performance checkins
  • Takes proactive steps to improve motivation, retention and engagement of team
  • Communicates and delegates assignments and sets internal deadlines for projects, ensuring that assignments and tasks are completed on time (whether they be fully
  • Works independently with mínimal guidance from Supervisor or more Senior team members.
