Working within local government communications offers you the chance to work on important local issues while also making a real difference to peoples' lives.
With a focus on the communications aspect of the team, we want someone who can deliver fast-paced, creative comms. Someone who has the expertise to produce excellent written content to support PR, campaigns and online activity.
You must have a good understanding of how the media works, experience of writing media responses and press releases and you'll be great at developing outstanding relationships with colleagues across our council.
Your excellent people skills and ability to work with all stakeholders internally and externally will mean you'll thrive being part of a high profile and visible team.
You will be working in a complex environment under tight time pressures and dealing with sensitive issues across all directorates.

About you
You will be a natural team-player who is supportive, flexible and resourceful.
You can write exceptional content and will effectively use a variety of communications and marketing channels to deliver on a broad range of projects and campaigns across our varied portfolio of services.
We're looking for someone with at least two years relevant experience, qualified to degree level in marketing or communications (or equivalent relevant workplace experience), or recognised professional qualification in Media, Marketing, Public Relations and/or equivalent verifiable experience or training.
Skills, competencies and experience required:
Essential
- excellent written and verbal communication skills
- experience of writing publicity content such as press releases, newsletter, speeches, website copy and leaflets
- ability to handle media enquiries and create effective news releases to gain positive press coverage
- excellent ability to conceptualise, write, and edit quality written content
- be highly organised and adept at juggling tasks to meet changing demands and deadlines
- excellent interpersonal communication skills, comfortable communicating externally and internally with individuals at all levels
- highly motivated, detail-oriented, organised and confident working independently and as part of a team
- demonstrable experience of working within a busy communications, PR, marketing and engagement environment
Desirable
- experience in PR and communications in a local authority not essential but an advantage
- knowledge of online design tools, i.e. Canva.
- ability to use content management systems, social media tools, web analytics tools and digital marketing methods.
- digital skills (video production and editing beneficial)
