Information Systems and Support leadership The post holder will: Develop and implement long-term IT strategies. This involves working with senior management to identify the company's IT needs and developing plans to meet those needs.

Take a lead role in NIHR national strategies involving IT ensuring that the Academy is represented, and its needs met at all levels.

Oversee the daily operations of the IT department.


This includes ensuring that all IT systems are up and running, that data is backed up and secure, and that users can access the information they need.

Manage the IT budget. This includes tracking expenses, making sure that IT projects are on budget, and negotiating contracts with vendors. Recruit and manage IT staff.

This includes hiring and training new employees, as well as evaluating and developing the skills of existing employees. Maintain relationships with IT vendors.

This includes working with vendors to develop and implement new IT solutions, as well as resolving any problems that may arise.

Keep up to date on the latest IT trends.

This involves reading industry publications, attending conferences, and networking with other IT professionals.

Communicate and manage change effectively to internal and external stakeholders in a timely manner, taking particular care in the implementation of the management information system and the changes in relation to increasing workloads for staff, dealing with questions, resistance and potential challenges from staff in a diplomatic and sensitive manner.

Lead on special projects where IT expertise is fundamental to ensure successful delivery. Oversee NIHR Academy IT security and compliance with industry standard.


Oversee the Academys Continuous Improvement process The Assistant Director Information Systems and Support is a critical member of the senior management team and plays a vital role in the success of any organisation.

They are responsible for ensuring that the organisation's IT systems are reliable, secure, and efficient.

They also need to be able to balance the needs of the business with the needs of the IT department.

To be successful in this role, the Assistant Director Information Systems and Support must have a strong understanding of IT systems, as well as the business needs of the organisation.

They must also be able to effectively manage people, budgets, and projects.

Member of the NIHR Academy Executive Board The post holder will be a member of the NIHR Academy Executive Board and in that role will be expected to:

Deputise for the CEO and Director of Programmes and Impact at national meetings, as required Implementing and managing change, devising and communicating new policies where necessary Play a key part in cross NIHR and national strategic initiatives and projects, taking on a lead role where necessary.

Oversee the implementation and delivery of new initiatives and projects as they arise Contribute to the overall leadership of the NIHR Academy Executive including playing a key role in setting organisational culture, structure and governance Communication and engagement The post holder will be expected to:

Lead the development of reports and papers for strategic and policy meetings and publications Liaise with other national programmes, wider NIHR, Department of Health and Social Care staff, other key funders of health and social care and the academic community as necessary Deliver presentations to national stakeholder groups and relevant conferences Take lead responsibility in the development of briefings requested from various sources including DHSC, NIHR Centres Exec Board, other government departments, other stakeholders and partners and ministers offices (including Parliamentary Questions, and Select Committees) Act as a representative for NIHR Academy and NIHR more widely at national meetings, workshops and conferences, often having to defend NIHRs position in a public setting.

Provision of leadership to the Information Systems and Support team The post holder will lead the team responsible for the delivery, evaluation and improvement of information systems and support for the NIHR Academy.


This will involve:

Providing leadership, advice and support to the Senior Programme Managers in maintaining and developing current and new streams of work.

Taking responsibility for planning highly complex workloads with a broad range of activities, some that are on-going and some which require formulation and adjustment of plans or strategies.

The workloads can be highly evolutionary needing to adapt plans in a rapidly changing environment.

Developing and oversee team goals and objectives in order to deliver against key milestones and KPIs Create and maintain a culture of inclusivity Ensuring delivery of activities and projects in line with business plans and KPIs Ensuring effective team contribution to NIHR Academy wide initiatives such as continuous improvement work, and culture and values.
