Prototype Build Technician:

Our client is one of the UKs leading Automotive Engineering companies and they are looking for a highly skilled Prototype Build Technician to come and join their team


Main Purpose of Role:

Supporting product development activities, you will be responsible for preparing and building prototype motors. Prepare and set up test equipment, including hardware and software.


Key Activities:


  • Mechanical and Electric assembly. Working closely with our design teams. You will be involved in hands on assembly, feeding back to the design team whenever you encounter issues or problems. Support planning & procurement of new equipment.
  • Rapidly design and manufacture one off prototypes.
  • Prepare and set up test equipment, including hardware and software
  • Confirm test equipment continues to function correctly and maintain accuracy of test results
  • Ensure data is stored correctly and appropriate records are maintained
  • Complete individual tests to support the product develop aims and with appropriate levels of accuracy
  • Always work within Health and Safety requirements for yourself and others
  • Work with the Test & Development team, delegating tasks or completing hands on work as appropriate
  • Prepare technical reports and presentations especially regarding test facility topics
  • UK travel, in line with customer requirements
  • Liaise with external suppliers and customers as required

Experience Required:


  • Hands on experience in building electromechanical systems in a heavily controlled industry
  • Electric motors, transmissions and/or power electronics is ideal
  • Highly dynamic or rotating machines is desirable
  • Automotive, commercial vehicles or rail sectors is desirable especially within powertrain systems
  • Read engineering drawings and understand engineering fundamentals.
  • Engaging with external testing houses for the provision of services not supported inhouse
  • Creation of test procedures and interpreting standard tests
