Description
My client is a market leader in the defence sector and they are looking for a Configuration Management Lead.

As a key member of the Engineering team, this role leads Configuration Management across the wider Defence Operating Unit across the UK.

The focus is to provide Configuration Management Leadership to enable a small team to deliver across multiple programs within all areas of Defence.


Key Responsibilities To ensure Configuration Management processes and plans are compliant to standards.
  • To identify and deliver training both internally and to all stakeholders.
  • To carry out internal and external auditing against process.
  • To identify tooling (Windchill/SAP) upgrades and manage licensing with vendors.
  • To ensure change management principles are applied to all controlled data.
  • To ensure configuration management and planning responsibilities are carried out during each lifecycle stage of any given program. (resourcing, funding and capability)
  • To identify capability requirements within the CM function and interview/ recruit when necessary.
  • To ensure Configuration Baselines are maintained as per standards and the requirements of any specific system.
  • To ensure product definitions are correctly identified.
  • To deliver configuration status accounting responsibilities such as metrics.
  • To chair configuration management meetings such as CCB's.
  • To identify transversal activities ensuring constant development.
  • To identify development objectives to all function employees.
  • To maintain a budget and deliver return on any investment.
  • To perform under pressure in Audits both external and internal.
  • To lobby stakeholders and sell the benefits of Configuration Management within an organisation.
  • To line manage, coach and develop the Configuration Management team, using all policies, processes and procedures around people management, compliance and governance

Person Specification Demonstrated functional knowledge of hardware and software configuration management tools, best practices, and industry standards.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence and direct project teams on proper configuration control for major programs or multiple smaller programs.
  • Experience of PLM/MRP/ERP Tools such as Windchill and SAP.
  • Ability to think strategically about configuration management in support of engineering design and product support, and to lead process improvement projects to through to implementation.
  • Proven experience within Configuration management and leadership of a team.

Other requirements Travel requirements:
Occasional UK travel may be required to attend team/customer meetings and training activities
  • Clearance requirements: Post-holder must hold and maintain UK Government clearances where required
