This role offers an exciting opportunity to be part of the innovative work of the Place Directorate here at Sport England.

Working as part of our Place Collaboration and Learning team you will join a group of people who are passionate about creating change and supporting partners to connect, share, reflect and learn.

We do this through collaborative and practical approaches involving our partners and ourselves, this includes:

  • Bringing together key local and national partners to learn about whole system, place-based approaches
  • Developing and cocreating resources to support locally based partners to grow their learning of whole system, placebased working
  • Creating leadership development opportunities
  • Telling a compelling story about the impact a placebased approach can have on a local system

Role Purpose

The Place Relationship Lead will play a crucial role in overseeing the Universal offer for places through working within the Place Collaboration and Learning Team.

The role will ensure a strong place based universal offer is provided by Sport England to local authorities, and other local partners, that responds to local need, influences strategic thinking and shares learning so sport and physical activity is effectively positioned and embedded locally.

The Universal Offer is our way of supporting the locally based physical activity sector with tools, resources, guidance and opportunities for learning related to whole system, place - based working.

This is set up to influence and support the local sector, through learning and improvement, to deliver mutually shared priorities and outcomes.

The work is underpinned by tackling inactivity and addressing the stubborn inequalities through place - based, whole system change.
This role does not require a background within, or personal aptitude for, sport.

We are looking for a people-person, whose ambitions and values align with Sport England's and someone who wishes to work towards the ambitions we set out in our strategy Uniting the Movement.


Skills & Experience

Essential

  • Excellent knowledge of the local landscape and environment in which sport, physical activity and social objectives are delivered.
  • Experience of working with local authorities and /or local health bodies or other locally based organisations to seek wider outcomes.
  • Knowledge and experience of managing and influencing senior level, cross sector relationships that are collaborative.
  • Ability to influence a range of internal colleagues across diverse teams within an organisation.
  • Excellent skills in effective communication of ideas/complex messages to partners.
  • Demonstrable ability to support dissemination of knowledge that brings about change both internally and externally.
  • Ability to influence with impact including ability to modify approach to suit a variety of contexts and achieve outcomes.
  • Ability to effectively solve complex problems and challenges, thinking strategically and creatively to achieve an outcome whilst knowing when to seek guidance from line manager.
  • Ability to provide proactive, customer service using appropriate but 'tenacious' approaches to bring about change.
  • Experience in managing award investments in partner organisations.
  • Good listening and facilitation skills.
  • Displaying personal behaviours that model key values of honesty, integrity, compassion, respect, trust, teamwork.
  • The ability to manage competing priorities and meet multiple deadlines in a controlled manner.
  • An ability to evaluate opportunity and risk.

Desirable

  • A working knowledge of whole systems approaches and place based working and thinking and how they might be applied in a sport and physical activity context.

Salary:
£34,550.00 per year
