An exciting opportunity has arisen to assist the Orthoptic Department at Moorefield's St Georges in its activities. You will be part of the friendly Orthoptic team working alongside consultants, orthoptists, optometrists, nurses and ophthalmic technicians.

It is a varied role which requires patient investigations for neuro-ophthalmology and paediatric patients in addition to this you will also undertake vision screening of 4-5 year olds in schools throughout the Wandsworth area.

Full training will be provided in all aspects of the role and an experience in healthcare would be advantageous.


PROBATIONARY PERIOD


During the probationary period, your suitability for continued employment will be assessed and provided a satisfactory standard is achieved and maintained, your employment will be confirmed.

The probationary period may be extended or your employment terminated either during or at the end of probation, in line with the trust Probationary Policy.

For the duration of the probation period, the notice period will be in line with contractual obligations on either side.

To assist in the provision of a high quality Orthoptic led vision screening service for all eligible reception age children across Wandsworth Borough.

To carry out vision assessment on children in all schools, unsupervised.

To carry out all administrative duties related to vision screening including accurate record keeping.

To work effectively as both single handed and as part of a team.


Must demonstrate good communication and interpersonal skills to children in reception class in order to gain an accurate test and give information on what is required from the child.

To record the outcome of the vision screening test as per the agreed protocol

Assessing visual acuity in adult patients as appropriate, test colour vision, pupils and dilate.

Performing Goldmann Visual fields and imaging assessments for patients in the neuro-ophthalmology.


During non term time you will be expected to carry out patient investigations and help in the general ophthalmology clinics.


Ensuring the department is set up for each clinic and is well stocked with equipment, eye drops and appropriate forms etc.
