Description
We are a growing Independent Special Needs Provider seeking to recruit a

Caretaker/Maintenance Operative to deliver a high standard of building and facilities

management across four school sites in Erdington. As Caretaker you will ensure our sites

are secure and well maintained, providing a safe, caring environment for our young people.

  • This is a full time permanent position
  • 40 hours per week, Monday-Friday (with some weekend callouts, fee applies)
  • Salary £24,960 £29,994

Overall duties include:

Carrying out Caretaker repair and regular maintenance duties to provide a clean,

hygienic and safe environment in accordance with health and safety requirements

Responsibility for the security of the buildings as a registered key holder, following

the correct opening and closing procedures of the buildings each day for the sites to

function correctly

maintenance, repairs and cleaning skills

Completing planned maintenance and repair tasks, responding promptly to the

resolution of maintenance requests reported

Property inspections and health and safety checks

Supervising contractors for major repairs

Day to day supervision of four cleaning staff

Monitoring cleaning materials, tools and furniture and re-ordering as required

Adhering to the company's safety policies to create a safe working environment for

everyone


DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES

  • Repair, maintenance and painting and decorating at all four school sites providing a clean,
hygienic and safe environment in accordance with health and safety requirements


  • Responsible for the security of the buildings, following the correct opening and closing
procedures of the buildings each day for the sites to function correctly


  • Responding promptly to the resolution of maintenance requests reported, property
inspections and health and safety checks


  • Point of contact and supervision of contractors whilst on site for major repairs, ensuring
correct procedures are adhered to


  • Carry out grounds maintenance duties and/or supervising others in these roles - including, but not limited to grass cutting, hedge trimming, leaf clearing, sweeping and rubbish removal
  • Adhoc cleaning of the building and supervision of a team of four cleaning staff. Monitoring cleaning materials, tools, and furniture and reordering as required.
  • Inspecting the building, including heating, cooling, lighting and alarm systems to make sure they are in good working order. Carry out fire safety checks as required by law, arrange necessary repairs to the building and fire safety equipment
  • Provide porterage duties, including support with the set up/cleardown of rooms. Rearrange rooms to required specification as necessary
  • Carry out regular patrols to keep the premises, grounds and carpark areas tidy, swept and hazard free
  • To ensure that all Health and Safety Documentation is up to date and accurate records are kept, and liaising with the Head Teacher/Assistant Head Teacher (Operations Manager) as necessary
  • Ensure bins are ready for waste collection and kept clean
  • Carry out any other reasonable request from line manager and/or deputy

CRITERIA ESSENTIAL OR DESIRABLE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES


  • Ability to organise and prioritise own workload with mínimal supervision E
  • Ability to work effectively both on own initiative and as part of a team E
  • An excellent practitioner who can consistently meet the DFE's and Company requirements E
  • Proven excellent communication, interpersonal and people management skills across all levels E
  • Demonstrate efficiency and honesty, and dedication to provide a safe, caring environment for our young people E
  • Commitment to supporting the ethos of the Company E
  • The post holder may be required to undertake other duties appropriate to the post and hours of work or work at other premises and locations, but the organisation will always discuss this with the Post Holder first.

QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE

  • Basic level of General Education E
2. 3 years' maintenance experience D

£24,960.00-£29,994.00 per year
