The South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority (SYMCA) brings together the local authorities of Barnsley, Doncaster, Rotherham and Sheffield, and the private sector through the Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP).

We are seeking a Support Officer to join our growing Sustainability Team to assist in providing practical, operational, and deliverable solutions in achieving our ambitious sustainability and zero carbon goals.


Your initial focus will be working on the Mayor's ambitions to plant 1.4 Million trees and a hold Citizens' Assembly for the Climate Emergency, you will also work with local, regional and national partners to help deliver our sustainability strategy.


The role will actively support the development of workstreams that identify sustainability strategy and delivery solutions, which realise the ambition of the SYMCA Strategic Economic Plan and Net Zero and Environmental targets.


Ideally you will have knowledge of environmental sustainability and of the delivery of projects and programmes within the public sector, you will be highly numerate with strong organisational and administrative skills and an eye for detail.

Experience in a similar role would be desirable as would a knowledge of the challenges that face our region in it's transition to a net zero economy.

Good communication skills and self-motivation are essential as is the ability to maintain an up-to-date knowledge of the issues involved in delivering complex programmes.
