We are seeking to recruit an assistant to work within the Paediatric Gastrointestinal Physiology Department. This advert is for a full time Fixed Term/Secondment Post for 12 months.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and well-motivated individual with good communication skills and attention to detail.

Working as part of a team across disciplines you will contribute to the provision and further development of a high-quality diagnostic service.

The post holder will be required to complete a range of administrative and clinical duties. administrative duties will include booking appointments, answering telephone calls and supporting staff booking patients in other departments in the hospital (e.g. inpatients and theatre patients).

Clinical duties will include setting up equipment for a range of investigations, downloading test results after investigations, supporting and chaperoning patients in difficult and invasive procedures as well as removing naso-gastic tubes and supporting with breath testing investigations.

The post-holder will be required to work independently and sometimes under mínimal supervision.

Administrative Duties

  • Book patients and send standard letters to patients.
  • Answer telephone calls, take messages, rebook appointments, answer basic queries
  • Support PCOs with booking theatre patients.
Clinical Duties

  • Help with clean up and set up of the GI Physiology room and equipment.
  • Chaperone and advocate for the patient during investigations.
  • Link up with play specialist team for some patients.
  • Carry out stock check and ordering.
  • Set up, check calibration, and download a range of clinical equipment.
  • Collect equipment from wards following study, may include removing nasogastric tubes
  • Support inpatient investigation
  • Take Wireless Capsule Endoscopy equipment to theatres and support Gastroenterology Consultants
  • Phone patients and check capsules have been passed.
  • Perform a range of Breath test
  • Check patient has complied with requires prior to test.
  • Give the patient the preprescribed test meal.
  • Give the patients instructions on how to perform the breath test.
  • Take breath samples and record data on data sheet.
  • Perform C13Urea breath tests (nonradioactive isotope breath test)
