Role description:


You will be a
GCSE English Tutor who can work
in-person on a one-to-one/one to small group basis with students who need further support in the English curriculum.

    9am and 5pm weekdays

We are looking for
GCSE English Tutors who can work
in-person with students who may have the following special educational needs, often with EHCPs:

  • Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH)
  • Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)
  • Specific Learning Difficulties (SpLD)
  • Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD).

Responsibilities of our tutors:


  • Build positive relationships and help students to overcome barriers to learning
  • Plan and deliver English lessons
  • Implement teaching and learning strategies based around each student's EHCP and make adjustments to maintain focus and motivate students
  • Complete session reports of student's engagement, progress and attainment, record weekly attendance figures.
Tuition sessions can be requested by local authorities, mainstream schools or alternative providers, with sessions usually taking place off-site in community venues such as:

  • Libraries
  • Residential homes
  • Schools
  • A family home (providing an appropriate adult is present).
A full risk assessment and evaluation will take place prior to any tutoring commencing with a student.


Requirements for the role:

To be considered for the role of
GCSE English Tutor you will:

  • Have
    experience of
    teaching young people (essential)
  • Have the ability to teach
    English at GCSE level:
  • Be able to work
    in-person with students in
    Didcot, Oxfordshire:
  • Have a comprehensive understanding of working with young people attributed EHCPs (with references as evidence)
  • Have experience of implementing a variety of deescalation strategies in challenging situations involving young people.
Tutor Doctor (Oxford) is committed to safeguarding children, young people and vulnerable adults.

All staff we engage will undertake thorough interviewing and referencing checks and have, or be prepared to undertake, an Enhanced DBS check that must be registered on the Update Service.
