This is an exciting opportunity to work at John Hunter Clinic as a BBV Health Adviser and Pathway Coordinator for patients with reactive BBV result on testing in the Emergency Department (ED) within CWFT.

The majority of these will be unexpected diagnoses so patients may require advice and support to encourage them to enter care.


The post holder will work with the health adviser team and clinical leads to ensure patients are receiving their results efficiently and they will be expected to provide health education, advice and support to patients following their diagnosis along the patient pathway into care.


  • Manage Blood Borne Virus (BBV) results.
  • Contact and inform patients of results and help engage in care including recalling patients to clinic for discussion and testing where appropriate.
  • Initiate Partner Notification (PN) with patients.
  • Collecting and providing data of results and outcomes of BBV results management.
  • Initiate and participate in relevant audits.
  • Establish and maintain good working relationships with the Health Adviser Team, clinical teams including HIV and Hepatology.

  • Provide information and health education for clients diagnosed with BBV infections, including HIV providing support and onward referral as required.
  • To manage the process of partner notification/management for these clients in order to encourage, with the client's consent, the attendance of all potentially infected sexual contacts to a Sexual Health clinic.
  • To manage the patient pathway for all patients with reactive blood borne results who were tested in the ED department.
  • To develop and maintain supportive and effective relationships with the Hepatology team in the hospital.
  • To exchange relevant information about clients and contacts with other Sexual Health clinics as necessary.
  • To take sexual histories from clients as appropriate and refer on to relevant individuals in the multi professional team as part of the care pathway.
