Description
The Regional Postgraduate Dean is a pivotal role within the regional leadership team.

The role provides strategic leadership across a multi-professional portfolio to deliver high class education and training to the health and care workforce to deliver the best care for the population.


A key priority within this role will be to ensure that innovation and workforce transformation continues at pace, learning lessons from managing the pandemic, but in particular to derive the greatest benefit for patient's, staff and learners.

Throughout the COVID 19 pandemic news ways to innovate and transform workforce were found through healthcare education and training transformation which must continue.

The role of the Regional Postgraduate Dean embraces corporate, statutory and non-statutory functions. It is focused upon improving patient and trainee safety and experience and supporting service transformation.

As a system leader the post holder will:

  • Act as a clinical educational leader at regional and national levels
  • Ensure the quality and safety of learners and learning environments
  • Fulfil specific statutory duties and functions
  • Oversee and ensure delivery of PGMDE
  • Champion Multidisciplinary Healthcare Education


The Regional Postgraduate Dean is line managed by the WTE Regional Director and is professionally accountable to the Regional Medical Director.


The Regional Postgraduate Dean will provide clear leadership, founded in knowledge and experience of, and commitment to, multi-disciplinary education and training, to support the development of the whole health and care workforce.

They will be able to work effectively with other clinical regional leads within the system to bring together all aspects of education, training and development across the whole workforce.


In April 2023, NHS England, NHS Digital, and Health Education England merged to create a new, single organisation to lead the NHS in England.

This new NHS England is designed to create a simpler, smaller, high performing, organisation that leads the NHS more effectively and is a better place to work.
