This is an exciting opportunity to become a key member of our established Same Day Emergency Care team in Medicine (SDEC-M).


This role will enable an experienced SHO or registrar equivalent level doctor to gain experience as part of our Acute Medicine team at Chesterfield Royal Hospital.

This post will support delivery of

  • Proactive patient management to achieve timely and highquality assessment and care.
  • Timely investigations and interventions managed in accordance with departmental protocols and guidelines.
  • Referral of patients to other specialties and services as required.
  • Provision of out of hours cover.
  • Involvement in multidisciplinary teams and meetings.
  • Participation in teaching and training for junior doctors and medical students, including involvement in their educational assessments, and education of other health care professionals.
  • Active involvement in audit and the development of departmental services and strategies

Personal development opportunities:


  • Support to prepare for examinations
  • Undertake clinical workload with close consultant supervision, allowing development and consolidation of a wide range of skills including rapid clinical assessment and procedural competencies
  • Opportunity to engage in quality improvement projects
  • Maintain evidence for successful annual medical appraisal in line with GMC expectation
  • Teaching opportunities include Tuesday lunchtime medical meeting, acute medicine teaching Thursday morning, and grand round Friday lunchtime


The Royal is a busy and friendly district general hospital which provides almost all the acute in-patient care for Chesterfield and the surrounding rural area of North Derbyshire.

The hospital is located on an attractive green field site two miles from the town centre. There is plentiful on-site parking, and the hospital is easy to access by both rail and road.
