Tutor - Functional Skills (Maths)

37.5 hours per week, 37 Weeks per year (Term Time only)

Start September 2023

Full Time Equivalent Salary Range:

Grade MS3 to MS4
from £28,870 per annum to £30,108 with increased earning potential up to
£34,441 upon completion of internal courses and length of service.


Actual Salary from £21,964 to £22,907 per annum with increased earning potential as above pro rated


The post holder will be required to deliver high quality functional skills and GCSE tuition, which meets the needs of the individual students in line with external requirements and the Trust Assessment Recording Framework.


Applicants must have experience of working with learners with learning difficulties and / or learning disabilities and have experience of teaching / training.


To undertake this position successfully you will have:


  • Level 5** Subject Specialist qualifications in Numeracy,
- a Teaching qualification Cert Ed, PGCE, DTLLS or above,
- experience of teaching Maths from Entry Level 1 to GCSE,
- experience of assessing functional skills and experience of supporting people with Dyslexia.

You will have experience of delivering Maths to GCSE standard.


Main Duties

  • To assess, plan and deliver functional skills in numeracy and GCSE to all students on an individual or group basis according to students learning needs and requirements.
  • To work as a part of the functional skills team to develop a high quality functional skills program within the college.
  • To be a part of ongoing assessment of students learning needs and to make reasonable adjustments as required minimising barriers to learning and achievement.
  • To deliver the education remit to students as defined by the Assessment Recording Framework.
