Electrical Engineer
Primary Role.
To develop electrical solutions for clients as part of overall low-carbon systems, from initial analysis through feasibility study to design development, contractor tendering and technical oversight of installations.
This would typically involve the followingkey tasks:
- Establishing the distribution network operator (DNO) infrastructure capacity and options for enhancement.
- Establishing the existing site infrastructure and demand.
- Determining the electrical support required for other lowcarbon technologies, e.g. heating and transport and identifying options for providing this support, including renewable generation.
- Contributing to business case analysis of the options.
- Fully developing the preferred option, identifying suitable products and creating tender packages to select contractors.
- Providing technical support to the project manager implementing the solution and longer term review and support of the solution for the client.
Secondary Roles.The Electrical Engineer may support the overall company effort in the following functions.
- Presentation of technical options and solutions to clients.
- Identification of further opportunities with existing clients.
- Continuous analysis of renewables/lowcarbon technologies and other energy efficiency measures, including costs and potential subsidies, to ensure that we are offering our clients the best options and are prepared for new options as they become viable.
- Involvement in the development of the Zero Carbon Schools Limited metering and monitoring business.
Essential Qualities & Experience
- Electrical Engineering Degree, Chartered status (or studying towards) or significant experience
- The ability to provide clear direction/reports and/or commentary/recommendations with potential risks or issues/factors that need to be considered/investigated further.
- An enquiring mind and a desire to understand future electrical technologies and how they can be applied to achieve a zerocarbon environment.
- An understanding of HV and LV networks
- Understanding the impact of lowcarbon technology installations in a commercial environment
- Understanding of metering.
- Able to work on multiple projects simultaneously and manage own work to meet the deadlines of the projects.
- Energetic and capable of operating on own initiative and driving events.
- The ability to prepare and record information in a clear and logical format.
- Good teamwork and communications skills.
- Competent with IT and fully conversant with common packages such as Microsoft 365
Highly Desirable Qualities & Experience
- Master's degree in related field, ideally in renewable energy.
- Experience in solar PV design and feasibility assessments, including the use of common design tools such as Open Solar.
- Experience in design and feasibility assessments of other renewable technologies, such as wind turbines or battery storage.
- Experience in design or installation of GSHP and ASHP systems from an electrical position
- Strong ability to articulate complex information in simple/clear written and verbal formats
- Experience in working with DNOs
