The Opportunity
We are currently recruiting for a Specifications Technologist at our Little Treats Biscuit Bakery in Northwich, Cheshire.


Job Purpose


To write product specifications (covering all retailers), ensuring product and process quality standards meet expectations (gold standard), legislative requirements and established industry standards.

to ensure that all manufacturing specifications are updated in line with each new product launch / re development, whilst also assuming a wider range of departmental duties.


What you will contribute
Use Gold Standards as guides to how specifications should be completed fully and in line with customer expectations.


Action any issues raised and ensure there is a continuous improvement process to achieve the highest standards in this area.


Sign-off of packaging and artwork to ensure all pack copy information corresponds with information provided on the product specifications as well as the finished product formulation.


Participation in product approval meetings with external customers and internal pre production meetings to ensure compliance with customer codes of practice and food safety.


Maintain awareness of customer specific policies, legal requirements and changes in codes of practise documentation to ensure factory adherence to requirements.


Maintain the summary on regulatory testing and ensure this is considered/advised on in relation to ongoing legality of pack copy.

Maintain retailer portals ensuring contact details are kept up to date and alerts are communicated to the wider business.

Review raw material specifications with the Raw Materials Controller in relation to customer codes of practice and food safety.


Generate product & manufacturing specifications by working closely with our customers and NPD/ Technical departments to establish a robust point of reference / contact with our customers.

Conduct internal audits as required ensuring compliance to BRC requirements.


Liaise closely with the Purchasing department and Development Technologists to ensure critical path dates are met for the submission of accurate artwork information and ultimate launch date timings.


Support on maintaining the summary on regulatory testing and ensure this is considered/advised on in relation to ongoing legality of pack copy.


Work with the rest of the Technical team and provide support on customer audits, traceability exercise or other activity to ensure the business provides a robust food safety system which is auditable.


What you will bring
Food labelling experience.

Experience in completing retailer specifications (M&S, Waitrose, Asda, Morrisons, Tesco, Aldi)

Knowledge and understanding of Food Manufacturing Processes.

Strong communication and organisational skills.

Demonstrates clear communication skills both verbal and written at all levels.
